Let's See Some Softoppers

I personally haven't had a problem with the Velcro on the tailgate on either the current DC or my previous extended cab. But good to know that there is a solution using a magnetic strip should the Velcro become an issue.

 

That's good to hear. Doording had to rivet (or screw?) the Velcro to the tailgate cap and it was coming up. I've never had good luck with Velcro adhesive standing up to weather long term. And didn't much like the idea of adhesive on the paint anyhow.

 

I did have problems with the velcro sticking to the tailgate top. With the heat as bad as it is here where I live, it just melts off. On a good note, thanks to doordings and countcoconuts idea with the magnetic strip this seems to work better. I just received my package from McMasters today and just now installed it. Absolutely love this idea and works so much better. My topper hangs down low so the magnetic strip sticks to the tailgate perfectly. I will post pics later if you guys are interested. I also ordered a metal tailgate cap from KBVoodoo that will be here next week.

 

Here is mine. I built a rack to go over it for hauling kayaks, bikes, etc.

I need to get one of these softoppers. I had an opportunity to buy a used one and let it slip through my hands. Idiot.

I'll need to find the magnet mod when I do. I am not adhering anything to the paint, and if doordings method on top of the gate did not work I will need to see the alternative solution.

 

Thanks @[kiesster] I put the foam on because the windows kept rubbing against the metal and messing them up. I cut the foam so they don't go over the joints so everything still folds up.

 

Just got my softopper last night. Can't wait to get it on the truck this weekend! The fabric seems heavy and very well made. All the hardware looks to be top notch as well. So far very happy with my purchase.

 

Girlfriend poked a hole through the soft topper with a nail and made a small tear.. bout an inch long.

Anyone have a patch kit or good way to fix it?

I had some damage to a soft top on a Z.
The upholstery shop I went to for the estimate, made a quick repair patch that I was tempted to live with, instead of ordering the $3K top. Know a local auto upholstery guy?

There are lots of canvas repair kits out there. Hunters (for wall tents), boaters, and sailors all need them on occasion.

Love my soft top from softtopper.com! Great product. Super easy to put on and take off, very durable and my dog loves it! Company is great had a small problem with one of the buttons and they sent me not only one replacement but 7 for no charge, they even payed shipping. Had it for a year now with many long road trips completely water proof and road worthy. Didn't have to drill any holes mounts rights to my tie down slid rails. Very happy with it. (2014 Off Road)

It does have some problems though, its missing a clevis pin on the driver side that i replaced with a nut and bolt and the rear window is being a pain. But still way cheaper then full price. Gonna stop at a hardware store for a clevis pin and get some velcro tape to help secure the rear window better. But thanks guys, i love the new look and functionality of the truck now.

 

Yeah i was thinking to give them a call, i havent tried the velcro yet so well see. Any suggestions on what else i should try?

 

I bought a tan one for my blue ribbon. The only thing I don't like about it is that there are the two pivot pin locations, and the one that makes the top taught doesn't allow it to fully retract to the front of the bed. The pivot pin location that does allow it to fold down easily looks all creased when its upright. Admittedly a pretty small gripe for an otherwise awesome top. It takes just a couple minutes to manipulate and the materials are top notch.
