    Photo overload!

Initial thoughts. Of course the tire shop put 42psi in them, so the drive home felt a way harsher, I'll report back after I drive the truck with the appropriate pressure.

They look really chunky, especially for an SL rated tire. Unlike the Toyo where the SL rated tire looks far more domesticated, this looks like a serious tire. Almost hybrid Mud/AT in real life - which is really impressive considering the SL only weighs 38lbs. A mere 1lb more than the shitbox Kevlar Wranglers. Because they weight is effectively the same, I could not discern any impact to braking, acceleration or suspension movement - however, like I said, the 42psi - a more accurate assessment is forthcoming.

Also, worth note, watching the guy balance them. They took between 3 to 5oz of weight. I thought this was impressive.

Awesome stone ejectors on the corner lugs. This makes me happy. The OEM Wranglers, for how tame they were, sure threw a lot of rocks. Also, the sidewall lugs are substantial. Probably a bit more chunky than the Wildpeak AT3W's that I had on my last Tacoma.

They do appear to be a smidgen narrower than the OEM Wranglers, I should have measured.

They are a bit louder than the OEM's, but not by much. For an AT tire I would not call them "loud" at all, but it is enough that I could tell the difference.

We have snow in the forecast, so hopefully I'll be able to report back, but just looking at them, I suspect they'll be banging in the snow.

Nice write up and nice truck! They do look very aggressive compared to the SL competitors. Hope you get that now review soon!

    Nice looking tires!
I like the look of the thread definitely - and the good looking black sidewalls. I would expect the quality to be pretty solid...

How loud are they relatice to the WP AT3W? If you can recall back to those. (I am still very impresed at how quiet they are!).

Will you post the 'real life' dimensions of the tires? (on the wheels and at pressure) It would be nice to have that as a reference on these new tires.

    Sure thing.

First, I really loved the Wildpeaks. I thought they were a great tire. I was always a BFG KO man, but the price put me onto the Falkens and I was impressed with their performance from they day I installed them and loved how they wore like iron. The only thing I didn't much care for on the AT3W was the weight. They are a heavy tire. Even the SL is tank.

As far as volume, I'd say they were on par with the Falken. Maybe a smidgen quieter. The Falkens were quiet when you were going straight, but made nose when you turned and they leaned onto the shoulder lugs.

And since you are a man of refinement, and I discovered Maxxis as a truck tire in New Zealand, I have also included proper metric measurements as well. Because Imperial is lame. A kings foot? really?

With appropriate 30psi; 22.5cm/9inches wide X 77.5 cm/30.5 inches (give or take) tall, 14/32 Tread depth.

Wrangler Duratrac and Toyo AT II are about all I've really found. Maybe the new AT III are load C too but I'm not sure and too lazy to look.

I honestly wasn't interested in chasing down a C-rated tire. They often times have a lower load rating than an SL rated tire because they are typically designed for Jeep that don't really tow/haul things. But yeah, to the bigger point, it is frustrating that if you want a chunky off-road tire, you are relegated to running a super-heavy E rated tire, which is total overkill for the vast majority of us drivers of lightweight Tacoma's.

I've had the Toyo's in C for a few years now and they've been fine for my light off-roading, but I'm in the market for new tires and I want something beefier looking. That's why I really like the Razrs but they're tricky to come by and the Wranglers are not. But yeah, there aren't really a lot of choices in that size. Everyone seems to run E of some kind and get along just fine.

I went with SimpleTire based on another TW members recommendation. They gave me a pretty hefty military discount and the whole process was extremely simple. They even arrange the shop to install the tires. All I had to do was show up.

    Thanks Mate!

I appreciate the metric consideration!
I'll give credit at least for choosing 'A' king's foot... can you imagine the mess if you had to change the measure definition each time you got a new King (or Queen)??

I spent some more time driving on these today. Freeway, around town. Basic daily driver stuff. I'm increasingly impressed with them They handle quite well. They are still plenty compliant, the truck still accelerates and brakes like it did with the OEM tires, only, if anything, the slightly stiffer carcass makes them handle better. More precise slowing through an off-ramp I really noticed the truck felt more planted.

Thanks for the great pics and first impressions. I’m leaning more towards the SL myself now, based on everything I’ve been reading. I figure if I don’t like it, I can always go to an E later, re-gear etc. These look good, but now it’s an availability issue for me... I know I can get the Ridge Grapplers locally, so that might be deciding factor...

Did some very mild of roading today, bookended by about 100 miles of highway driving.... I am increasingly impressed. They are quiet, and handle very, very well on road, but also really confidence inspiring in the dirt. It's real easy to modulate traction and hooning around,.mashing the gas in corners is a lot of fun and easy to control.

They seem to only have stone ejectors on the corner lugs... Maybe that's the only place they matter? But the lugs are far enough apart that at least the little stones aren't sticking around.

Nice. Seems to sit right at the light-offroad and good on-road sweet spot. I'll start bugging Maxxis asking for the 265 75 16... and maybe by the time I need the next set of tires...
    :D
I'll be curious to see how they handle any abuse dished out by users as more Tacos wear these...

I was considering these for my Tundra but all the 18" sizes are E-load and I have no interest in E's

Yep. A 75 would be a nice option. I was thinking about this today. I'm not sure if I would or wouldn't want the 75. My off roading is getting to the trailhead,.which mostly means dirt "roads" of some flavor.

Those who actually go off road will really be able to test these tires in that context more than I will.

Just put 35x11.50r17 on tonight. Width of a 285 tire but 35" tall. Very aggressive sidewall for AT tires
