Sooooo, still a newby on this thread so please forgive all the dumb questions I'm about to ask.

Question - I want new rims on my taco. I have the stock 16s on. Is there a benefit to upgrading to 17s or possibly 18s? Im sure MPG will be affected of course, but if I use my taco as a DD and go on the occasional trail riding, are 17s the mid point to ease my worries?

MPG won't necessarily be affected. It depends on the wheel you go with.
One thing to consider when choosing wheels that will affect MPG's is weight. Many aftermarket wheels are a good deal heavier than the stock wheels. Couple that with a heavy LT rated tire, and your MPG will take a good hit.

As far as 18's vs 17's vs 16's, people run all three on these trucks. Mostly 16's and 17's though. 17's have more of a variety of tires to choose from, and 16's are better for offroading because you have more sidewall. Guys wheel with both sizes though.

If I were to get an aftermarket set of wheels, SCS would be top of the list. They're light, fairly inexpensive, are specifically made for Toyota trucks which means they are hub centric (106.1 mm bore). Which most aftermarket wheels can't claim. And let's face it, they look dope.

    My favorites are the SR8's.

SR8's FTW!!! Love these things. In 16, they only weigh 22 lbs. If you plan on wheeling, only go 16s or 17s. Not any higher.

Those are the ones I want, Gunmetal, and black. Only I want them in the 17" though (24 lbs. still 2-3 lbs lighter than most stock wheels).

    Love those wheels......I'm jelly.

If you haven't already seen it, check out this thread. I saved about $200 on my wheels.

Sweet! Thanks for the advise @Fitz235 yeah Im indecisive between the 16's and 17's. The SCS DO look dope. I might consider them, but then again the Fuels look good too. Since I have a DD, and like the occasional trail riding, I might stick to my stocks and get new tires since I'm shortly due for some. Falken, Hankook, and Coopers are what I'm looking at. BUT in the near future I plan on lifting the taco. maybe a 2" lift kit. Im just trying to price everything and do it all at once.

BTW guys, can a full size tire fit where the spare goes if I go with whatever rim and wheel I choose?

My truck feels more planted to the highway after putting on 17x7 TRD pros at stock height. 265/70/17 Falken Wild Peak tires and it did rub the mud flaps even though a lot of members claim their same sizing setup doesn't rub at all. Good luck!

Thanks man! I've got 5100s all around, front at 0, OME 885s, no top plate spacers, and a wheelers off-road 2" AAL.
Depends on the size! The bigger you go, the more you'll have to do to make it fit. Stock or one size bigger will fit fine. 285s will fit, bit require you to hammer back/cut off the tabs that help hold it in place and possibly relocate the elevator the tire hangs on.

Yeah I want to go with 5100's as well. how is ur ride quality with ur set up?

Ok so I will be fine with a 17 and 265/75/17 in the spare compartment. But like u said, I might have to do some minor cutting and what not.

    It rides great!

I'm guessing you meant 265/70r17? If you did it'll fit just fine, no mods. I don't think 265/75r17 is a thing.
