Inside the royal wedding of Princess Alexandra of Luxembourg: an Elie Saab gown, diamond tiara – and ties to the Middletons
A romantic royal wedding brought the Grand Ducal family of Luxembourg to the sun-soaked South of France over the weekend. Princess Alexandra of Luxembourg, the only daughter of Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa, tied the knot with French businessman Nicholas Bagory in a religious service – a week after their civil wedding at Luxembourg Town Hall.

Arriving at the picturesque village church on the arm of her father, Princess Alexandra cut an elegant figure in a satin gown that is believed to be a custom Elie Saab creation. Featuring distinctive pleated fabric cross-crossed across the bodice and waist, the gown has a classic soft A-line silhouette. The bride added an embroidered tulle veil and – in a crowning moment – a diamond tiara from the family collection.
The Luxembourg Chaumet Choker Tiara can be worn, as the name suggests, as both a necklace and a diadem. Acquired during the reign of Alexandra’s grandfather, Grand Duke Jean, the piece was worn by her grandmother, Grand Duchess Joséphine-Charlotte, and is now a favourite of her mother, Grand Duchess Marie-Teresa, The Court Jeweller reports. The tiara features a lattice design in diamonds and can be topped by a band of pearls. Princess Alexandra, however, preferred to keep it as a strictly diamonds. The bride has worn the piece on a number of previous occasions, so it made the perfect choice for her big day.

The service was held at the Church of Saint Trophyme in Bormes-les-Mimosas – the chic South of France enclave where James Middleton and Alizee Thevenet wed in 2021. The recent royal nuptials also has another tie to the Middleton family: it was held on the 12th wedding anniversary of the Prince and Princess of Wales.
The happy couple were joined by family including the bride’s four brothers, Crown Prince Guillaume, Prince Félix, Prince Louis and Prince Sébastien. Princess Marie-Astrid of Liechtenstein and Princess Marie-Gabrielle of Nassau were also in attendance. Crown Prince Guillaume, who recently became a father for the second time, was joined by his wife, Princess Stéphanie and their eldest son, Prince Charles. Their youngest son, Prince François, is just a few weeks old.

Following the service, the bride and groom left the church and were greeted by well-wishers and members of the press. A waiting crowd congratulated the couple as they left the wedding in movie star style: in a vintage convertible decorated with fresh flowers.
The royal wedding comes a week after the civil ceremony, where Princess Alexandra opted for a pared-back look of a Valentino Cape and Maison Natan blouse and trousers. Keeping with bridal tradition, Princess Alexandra accessorised with a white Chanel handbag and a towering pair of nude stilettos. The groom, who rocks signature bleach blond locks, looked smart in a navy suit with sky blue tie.

Alexandra is an active working member of the Luxembourg royal family and a professional linguist. She is currently seventh in the line of succession, following her eldest brother Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume, his two-year-old son Prince Charles and his newborn son Prince François; and her brother Prince Félix and his children, Princess Amalia and Prince Liam. Following Alexandra is her younger brother, Prince Sébastien. Notably, the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess’s third son, Prince Louis, is not in line to the throne; the prince relinquished his claim to the crown before marrying Tessy Antony de Nassau, a commoner, in 2006. The couple welcomed two sons, Prince Gabriel and Prince Noah before divorcing in 2019.
