Divers Live Giant Squid Japan
While not as bizarre as this AI-powered human washing machine, two divers managed to capture rare footage of a live giant squid off Japan’s west coast. Yosuke Tanaka and his wife Miki run a diving operation in Toyooka city. They received a tip from a local fisherman who spotted the giant squid in a bay, so the couple set off to find it.

You can find giant squid in all of the world’s oceans, but typically in continental and island slopes from the North Atlantic Ocean, especially Newfoundland, Norway, the northern British Isles, Spain as well as the North Pacific around Japan. As for size, males have been reported to measure up to 33-feet, while 43-foot females have been spotted. There have been a few claims of species measuring 66-feet or more, but none of those have been scientifically documented.

There it was. It was an enormous squid. We didn’t see the kinds of agile movements that many fish and marine creatures normally show. Its tentacles and fins were moving very slowly. I could see its tentacles moving. I thought it would be dangerous to be grabbed hard by them and taken off somewhere,” said Yosuke Tanaka to AFP.
