Today, MLCommons released its latest MLPerf Inference v5.0 benchmarks, showcasing Intel Xeon 6 with Performance-cores (P-cores) across six key benchmarks. The results reveal a remarkable 1.9x boost in AI performance over the previous generation of processors, affirming Xeon 6 as a top solution for modern AI systems.

According to the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Server Tracker, the server market reached a record $77.3 billion dollars in revenue during the last quarter of the year. This quarter showed the second highest growth rate since 2019 with a year-over-year increase of 91% in vendor revenue. Revenue generated from x86 servers increased 59.9% in 2024Q4 to $54.8 billion while Non-x86 servers increased 262.1% year over year to $22.5 billion.

Revenue for servers with an embedded GPU in the fourth quarter of 2024 grew 192.6% year-over-year and for the full year 2024, more than half of the server market revenue came from servers with an embedded GPU. NVIDIA continues dominating the server GPU space with over 90% of the total shipments with and embedded GPU in 2024Q4. The fast pace at which hyperscalers and cloud service providers have been adopting servers with embedded GPUs has fueled the server market growth which has more than doubled in size since 2020 with revenue of $235.7 billion dollars for the full year 2024.

TrendForce reveals that the combined revenue of the world's top 10 IC design houses reached approximately US$249.8 billion in 2024, marking a 49% YoY increase. The booming AI industry has fueled growth across the semiconductor sector, with NVIDIA leading the charge, posting an astonishing 125% revenue growth, widening its lead over competitors, and solidifying its dominance in the IC industry.

Looking ahead to 2025, advancements in semiconductor manufacturing will further enhance AI computing power, with LLMs continuing to emerge. Open-source models like DeepSeek could lower AI adoption costs, accelerating AI penetration from servers to personal devices. This shift positions edge AI devices as the next major growth driver for the semiconductor industry.

Back in January, Dell/Alienware announced the 27-inch 4K AW2725Q QD-OLED monitor, which is now being joined by the 27-inch 2560 x 1440 resolution AW2725D and the 34-inch 3440 x 1440 resolution AW3425DW, both also sporting a QD-OLED panel. The AW3425DW offers a 240 Hz refresh rate, a 0.03 ms grey to grey response time and a peak brightness of 1000 cd/m². The monitor is NVIDIA G-Sync Compatible, as well as AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and VESA AdaptiveSync certified and it supports HDMI VRR for console gamers. Dell has equipped it with one DP 1.4 port, two HDMI 2.1 ports—there's support for both picture by picture and picture in picture, something normally only seen on more business savvy monitors—one USB Type-B upstreams and one USB Type-A as well as one Type-C downstream ports, all being limited to a 5 Gbps data rate, although the Type-C port supports 15 W device charging.

As for the AW2725D, we're looking at a 280 Hz refresh rate, but Dell didn't provide much else in terms of specifications, as this model isn't expected to be available until sometime this summer. However, it will be the cheapest QD-OLED monitor from Dell's Alienware brand at US$549.99. The AW3425DW will have an MSRP of US$799.99 which it launches on April 29th. Finally, the AW2725Q which launches today, will retail at the announced US$899.99. All three models will come with a three year OLED burn-in warranty.

Intel today showcased how Intel Xeon 6 processors with Efficient-cores (E-cores) have dramatically accelerated time-to-market adoption for the company's solutions in collaboration with the ecosystem. Since product introduction in June 2024, 5G core solution partners have independently validated a 3.2x performance improvement, a 3.8x performance per watt increase and, in collaboration with the Intel Infrastructure Power Manager launched at MWC 2024, a 60% reduction in run-time power consumption.

AMD EPYC Processors
The EPYC 9004 family of high performance processors provide up to 128 cores per processor to help meet the demands of a wide range of workloads and use cases. High density core counts allow you to reduce the number of servers you need by as much as a five to one ratio when looking at retiring older, inefficient servers and replacing with a new one. Systems based on AMD processors can also be more energy efficient than many competitive processor based systems. For example, running 2000 VMs on 11 2P AMD EPYC 9654 processor-powered servers will use up to 29% less power annually than the 17 2P Intel Xeon Platinum 8490H processor-based servers required to deliver the same performance, while helping reduce CAPEX up to 46%.

Earlier today, NVIDIA happily declared that: "GeForce RTX 50-series laptop pre-orders start February 25 from OEMs." A March launch window was mentioned during the company's official unveiling of its "Blackwell" GPU architecture at CES 2025. Mobile variants of the GeForce RTX 5090, RTX 5080, and RTX 5070 Ti are expected to ship with laptops next month. GeForce RTX 5070 Mobile-equipped devices are due in April. As reported by VideoCardz, a Finnish retailer's webstore has confirmed the February 25 pre-order start date. The Gigantti.fi site lists several new ASUS ROG Zephyrus and Strix laptops; configured with the latest Intel Core Ultra 200HX or AMD "Strix Point/Fire Range" mobile APUs, and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50-series discrete graphics solutions. The most expensive option is listed with a €5499 price point—interested buyers are looking at a spec that includes a 16-inch OLED screen, Core Ultra 9-285H processor, 32 GB LPDDR5X RAM, 1 TB M.2 PCIe SSD, and a GeForce RTX 5090 32 GB mobile GPU. At the time of writing, Gigantti's "cheapest" option is a €2999 ROG Strix 16 model; sporting a Ryzen 9 9955HX APU and GeForce RTX 5070 Ti 12 GB Mobile GPU.

NVIDIA disclosed official MSRPs during last month's CES presentation: $2199 for RTX 5090, $2199 for RTX 5080, $1599 for RTX 5070 Ti, and $1299 for the RTX 5070. Western press outlets have scouted North American online retail outlets. Tom's Hardware observed (ASUS and HP) price ranges starting at $1800. The most expensive offering came in at $4200; an ultra high-end ROG Strix Scar 18 laptop featuring a GeForce RTX 5090 Mobile GPU and an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU. Team Green's upcoming launch partners include Acer, ASUS, Dell, Gigabyte, HP, Lenovo, Mechrevo, MSI and Razer. NVIDIA seems to have extra GeForce RTX 50-series announcements in the pipeline—they recommend that potential buyers: "stay tuned for more details!"

Dell laptops are widely considered to be among the best, and the company shows no signs of getting complacent. According to a fresh new leak, Dell is gearing up to announce new 16- and 18-inch workstation laptops, dubbed the Dell Pro Max 16 Plus and the Dell Pro Max 18 Plus. Of course, the naming scheme likely couldn't get any worse, but the leaked specifications certainly do seem enticing.

First and foremost, the laptops will be powered by Intel's upcoming Arrow Lake-HX CPUs, paired with up to an impressive 256 GB of CAMM2 memory. Intel Corporation today announced that Eric Meurice, former president, chief executive officer and chairman of ASML Holding N.V., and Steve Sanghi, chairman and interim chief executive officer of Microchip Technology Inc., have been appointed to Intel's board of directors, effective immediately. Both will serve as independent directors.

The latest market data from Canalys reveals a complex landscape for AI-capable PCs, with Qualcomm's Snapdragon X platform showing modest growth in the age of AI PC. Despite sequential growth of 180% in Q3 2024, Snapdragon X-powered devices represent less than 1.5% of the Windows market, according to research. Qualcomm managed to sell around 720,000 Snapdragon X devices, which accounts for only 0.8% of all PCs sold in Q3 2024. Microsoft leads the adoption of the Snapdragon X, having integrated the platform across much of its Surface lineup. The broader AI-capable PC market, however, tells a different story. Shipments reached 13.3 million units in Q3 2024, claiming 20% of total PC shipments. Windows devices dominated this category for the first time, securing a 53% market share, driven by the Windows 11 refresh cycle and advances in processor technology.

Canalys also noted some significant challenges ahead. A recent survey indicates hesitancy among channel partners, with 31% planning to avoid Microsoft's Copilot+ PCs in 2025 and 34% expecting these devices to constitute less than 10% of their sales. These premium offerings, which require a minimum of 40 NPU TOPS, are constantly being evaluated over their value proposition. Major manufacturers are pursuing diverse strategies to differentiate themselves. HP focuses on ISV partnerships to enhance AI capabilities, while Lenovo develops proprietary tools like Creator Zone and Lenovo AI Now. Dell and Lenovo are integrating on-device AI within their broader service ecosystems. With Windows 10's end-of-support approaching, manufacturers face pressure to drive upgrades among users with aging devices. The industry's sequential growth of 49% in AI-capable PCs suggests increasing market appetite, though customer adoption of premium AI features remains selective.

Dell Technologies announces financial results for its fiscal 2025 third quarter. Revenue was $24.4 billion, up 10% year over year. Operating income was $1.7 billion and non-GAAP operating income was $2.2 billion, both up 12% year over year. Diluted earnings per share was $1.58, and non-GAAP diluted earnings per share was $2.15, up 16% and 14% year over year, respectively.

"We continued to build on our AI leadership and momentum, delivering combined ISG and CSG revenue of $23.5 billion, up 13% year over year," said Yvonne McGill, chief financial officer, Dell Technologies. "Our continued focus on profitability resulted in EPS growth that outpaced revenue growth, and we again delivered strong cash performance."

Since its introduction, the NVIDIA Hopper architecture has transformed the AI and high-performance computing (HPC) landscape, helping enterprises, researchers and developers tackle the world's most complex challenges with higher performance and greater energy efficiency. During the Supercomputing 2024 conference, NVIDIA announced the availability of the NVIDIA H200 NVL PCIe GPU - the latest addition to the Hopper family. H200 NVL is ideal for organizations with data centers looking for lower-power, air-cooled enterprise rack designs with flexible configurations to deliver acceleration for every AI and HPC workload, regardless of size.

According to a recent survey, roughly 70% of enterprise racks are 20kW and below and use air cooling. This makes PCIe GPUs essential, as they provide granularity of node deployment, whether using one, two, four or eight GPUs - enabling data centers to pack more computing power into smaller spaces. Companies can then use their existing racks and select the number of GPUs that best suits their needs. Enterprises can use H200 NVL to accelerate AI and HPC applications, while also improving energy efficiency through reduced power consumption. With a 1.5x memory increase and 1.2x bandwidth increase over NVIDIA H100 NVL, companies can use H200 NVL to fine-tune LLMs within a few hours and deliver up to 1.7x faster inference performance. For HPC workloads, performance is boosted up to 1.3x over H100 NVL and 2.5x over the NVIDIA Ampere architecture generation.

According to The Information, NVIDIA's latest "Blackwell" processors are reportedly encountering significant thermal management issues in high-density server configurations, potentially affecting deployment timelines for major tech companies. The challenges emerge specifically in NVL72 GB200 racks housing 72 GB200 processors, which can consume up to 120 kilowatts of power per rack, weighting a "mere" 3,000 pounds (or about 1.5 tons). These thermal concerns have prompted NVIDIA to revisit and modify its server rack designs multiple times to prevent performance degradation and potential hardware damage. Hyperscalers like Google, Meta, and Microsoft, who rely heavily on NVIDIA GPUs for training their advanced language models, have allegedly expressed concerns about possible delays in their data center deployment schedules.

The thermal management issues follow earlier setbacks related to a design flaw in the Blackwell production process. The problem stemmed from the complex CoWoS-L packaging technology, which connects dual chiplets using RDL interposer and LSI bridges. Thermal expansion mismatches between various components led to warping issues, requiring modifications to the GPU's metal layers and bump structures. A company spokesperson characterized these modifications as part of the standard development process, noting that a new photomask resolved this issue. The Information states that mass production of the revised Blackwell GPUs began in late October, with shipments expected to commence in late January. However, these timelines are unconfirmed by NVIDIA, and some server makers like Dell confirmed that these GB200 NVL72 liquid-cooled systems are shipping now, not in January, with CoreWave GPU cloud provider as a customer. The original report could be using older information, as Dell is one of NVIDIA's most significant partners and among the first in the supply chain to gain access to new GPU batches.

TrendForce reports that the OLED monitor market is set to receive a boost with the introduction of new 31.5-inch OLED models. Panel makers are focusing on product differentiation and improved specifications, while several gaming brands are aggressively launching new models to capture market share. OLED monitor shipments are projected to reach 1.44 million units in 2024—representing YoY growth of 181%—with strong growth expected to continue in the coming years.

Samsung is expected to secure the top spot owing to strong sales of its 49-inch OLED monitors and a steady pipeline of new product releases. Its 2024 market share is forecast to expand to 31%. LGE, leveraging ample panel resources and continuous product line expansion, is poised to take second place with a projected 19% market share.

Samsung is implementing a major workforce realignment to improve operations and increase efficiency. According to a report from Reuters, Samsung has instructed its global subsidiaries to reduce marketing and sales staff by 15% and management personnel by 30% by the end of this year. Of its 267,800 employees worldwide, 147,000 are based overseas, and Samsung's global layoff plan is expected to impact all regions, including Europe, Asia, the Americas, and Africa. The exact motivation behind the layoffs is unclear; one source cites the slowdown in global demand for tech products as a factor, while another suggests Samsung is aiming to increase profits by cutting costs.

Dell is also implementing significant measures, with plans to lay off at least 12,500 employees, approximately 10% of its total workforce.
