”Annie” returns to NYC for a limited run at the King’s Theatre.
The star of the New York return of Annie met the press at Sardi's on December 4. The classic musical will play 16 performances Brooklyn's Kings Theatre from December 15-27. Original lyricist and director Martin Charnin helms the production, which is part of an all-new U.S. tour.
Annie features a book by Thomas Meehan, music by Charles Strouse, and lyrics by Charnin. The production feauures a 25-member company led by 10-year-old Issie Swickle in the title role, Gilgamesh Taggett as Oliver Warbucks, Lynn Andrews as Miss Hannigan, Ashley Edler as Grace, Garrett Deagon as Rooster, Lucy Werner as Lily St. Regis, and Jeffrey B. Duncan as FDR.
The creative team is made up of Beowulf Boritt (scenic design), Suzy Benzinger (costume design), Ken Billington (lighting design), Peter Hylenski (sound design), William Berloni (animal training), and Keith Levinson (musical supervision and additional orchestrations). Annie will feature choreography by Liza Gennaro, who will incorporate selections from her father Peter Gennaro's 1977 Tony-winning dances.
This production marks the first major theatrical event in the history of the Kings Theatre, a former movie house that reopened earlier this year after a $95 million restoration.
