- Grease or spray muffins pans with non-stick cooking spray and set aside.
- Melt marshmallows and butter in a microwave safe bowl for about 1 & 1/2 to 2 minutes. Be sure to watch to make sure you have a large bowl, so when they puff up, they don’t fall over the bowl and make a mess.
- Stir together until well blended and pour in Rice Krispies. Stir until well combined.
- Take an ice cream scoop or spoonful and add Rice Krispies into each greased muffin pan tin. Press down with wax paper or wet fingertips to make a dip into the bottom of the nests to place the frosting and candy eggs in.
- Let set for a half hour.
How to make Buttercream Frosting
- Combine butter, milk, vanilla and ½ of the powdered sugar in a large bowl. Mix till smooth and creamy, about 5 minutes. Then add the remaining powdered sugar and food coloring to get the color desired.

Helpful Tips & Candies to Use for Easter Nests
- The nests don’t have to look perfect and are easy to shape and mold in the muffin tins.
- The kids can definitely help decorate, just by placing the candy eggs on top, helping make the nests or piping the icing into the nests or all of the above!
- If you don’t have the ingredients for the Buttercream frosting, or just looking for a shortcut, you could also use store-bought frosting and add green food coloring to it. Use either vanilla frosting or cream cheese frosting if you are tinting it with food coloring.
I used Reese’s Cadbury Eggs and Whoppers Robin Eggs with this rice krispie nest recipe. You could easily use jelly beans, jelly bunnies, peeps or any Easter-related candies you desire.
How to Store Rice Krispie Nests
- Room Temperature – Keep these treats in an airtight container, but only for about 2 days at the most. Keep them well sealed with no excess air all. They will dry out one placed in the open air.
- Freezing – You can freeze unfrosted Rice Krispies for up to 6 weeks. Be sure to keep them in an airtight container, separated by sheets of wax paper between each stacked layer. Thaw before decorating.
