Meatball Sub on a Stick
Easy Meatball Sub on a Stick is an easy appetizer made with breadstick dough, meatballs, seasoning, mozzarella and seasonings!
A DELICIOUSLY FUN SNACK OR APPETIZER
This recipe is a fun way to eat a meatball sub! It’s super simple to make but it makes it very easy for everyone to serve themselves. Everyone absolutely loved these and they were the surprising hit at our get together! If you want a fun, new recipe to share with family and friends, you gotta try these!
TIPS FOR MAKING THIS FUN APPETIZER/SNACK:
- Use any flavor meatball your family will enjoy. Original, turkey, Italian or even the plant-based meatballs will work.
- Crescent roll dough or pizza dough can be substituted for the breadstick dough. You just need enough to cut it into 12 slices.
- The meatballs come frozen so you’ll need to defrost them slightly. They just need to be thawed enough where you can poke the skewer through them. If you’re in a hurry, pop them in a microwave for a few seconds. Don’t cook them! Just get them soft enough to poke the skewer through.
- For one tube of breadsticks, you’ll need 36 meatballs. Note: Not all frozen meatballs are the same size so you’ll need to use your best judgement here on how many meatballs will fit on your skewers (especially if they are pretty large.)
- I have not tried making this with fresh (raw) meatballs so I cannot tell you how that would go.
INGREDIENTS NEEDED: (SEE RECIPE CARD BELOW FOR THE FULL RECIPE)
- frozen meatballs
- breadstick dough
- Italian seasoning
- mozzarella cheese
- marinara sauce
- bamboo skewers
HOW TO MAKE MEATBALL SUB ON A STICK:
Preheat oven to 375F degrees. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper. Unroll dough and separate into 12 breadsticks. Thread one end of a breadstick on a skewer; add one meatball then thread the dough around the meatball.
Repeat threading with breadstick and 2 additional meatballs.
Place about one inch apart on cookie sheet. Repeat with remaining breadsticks and meatballs.
Bake for about 20 minutes. Meatballs should be cooked through and the breadsticks a nice light, golden brown. You may need to rotate the trays halfway through to ensure even cooking.
Once finished, take out pans and sprinkle the meatballs with mozzarella cheese and top that off with a sprinkle of Italian seasoning.
Put the meatballs back into the oven for another 3-4 minutes or until cheese has melted.
Heat up some of your favorite marinara sauce and serve with the meatball skewers for dipping!

This looks totes amaze, but I can’t seem to figure out exactly what a ‘serving’ constitutes. Is that per skewer? I’m going to try and turn this into a fun dinner for my family of five so I don’t want to come up short on meatballs! 😮
Hi Sierra! You get twelve skewers out of this so one serving is one skewer. Hope that helps!
