Parking proposals for Exeter residents
Proposals to improve on-street parking for residents in the Burnthouse Lane, Rifford Road and St Loyes Road area of Exeter will be displayed at a public exhibition next week.
The exhibition will be held at the Wonford Methodist Church Hall (opposite Lidl) on Tuesday 26 May between 1pm and 7pm.
The consultation is in response to requests from local residents who are affected by commuter parking. Following discussions with local County Councillors and the Chair of the Highways and Traffic Orders Committee, proposals have been drafted to consider those areas with reported problems and those areas where parking may be displaced.
Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council Cabinet Member for Highway Management, said: “This review is an opportunity for local people to be involved in the decision-making process on this important issue. We would encourage people to come along to the exhibition, take a look at the details proposed for their community and give us their views.”
Councillor Jill Owen, Chairman of the Exeter HATOC, said: “The HATOC Committee is committed to reviewing residents parking, particularly in areas which also have to contend with commuter parking. This review and the exhibition will hopefully provide us with the feedback we need to introduce some improved schemes for residents.”
Councillor Andy Hannan, who represents Priory & St Leonard’s, said: "This scheme has long been demanded by many residents of Wonford who find it difficult to park close to their homes because of commuter parking. However, not everyone will be convinced about the proposals and there will undoubtedly be suggestions for improvements. I strongly urge everyone who might be affected to have their say."
The proposals, which will review residents’ parking, pay and display and limited waiting bays, will be on display at the exhibition where officers from Devon County Council and County Councillors will be on-hand to answer any questions.
For anyone unable to attend the exhibition, information and feedback forms will be available online at http://devon.cc/exeterresidentparking or at County Hall between Wednesday 27 May and Friday 12 June.
Following this consultation, if a scheme is approved to progress further, proposals will be formally advertised, providing further opportunity for public comment.
