To be honest, it’s not difficult to make a steak. If you’re a “cast iron in the oven” person – I’ve got you covered in my Texas Roadhouse steak seasoning recipe. But if you’ve heard the buzz of making a perfect rib eye in your air fryer – I’ve got you!

Ingredients for an Air Fryer Steak

It’s simple – and it’s all about the meat. You can go as simple as salt & pepper or add a seasoning or marinade. Here are my suggestions:

Instructions for Air Fryer Rib Eye Steak

  1. Season or marinade your steak early in the day and then leave it open in the fridge.
    1. Coat all sides of the steak with your seasoning (2-3 tablespoons depending on the size and thickness of your steak).
    2. Be sure to get the side of the steak as well – a lot of people miss that part!
    3. Set on a baking rack so the air circulates all the way around (instead of a plate) in the refrigerator for at least an hour – but additional time is fine if you’re not in a hurry
    4. The Ribeye is a fatty cut of meat with lots of delicious marbling – no need for olive oil!
  2. Take steak out of refrigerator and have it get to room temperature – about 30-60 minutes.
  3. Air fry at 375 degrees F for 5 minutes
  4. Open air fryer basket and flip
  5. Air fryfor an additional 4-8 minutes depending on your taste.
    1. 4 min – medium rare
    2. 6 min – medium
    3. 8 min – well
  6. Take the steak out of the air fryer
  7. Move the steak to a cutting board and tent with foil. Let the steak rest for 5-10 minutes.
  8. Prepare your plates, slice against the grain and serve this big juicy steak full of amazing flavors to your family!

What temperature do you cook a steak in an air fryer?

You want to get some type of sear – so your air fryer temp should be at least 375-450.

What temperature is medium rare for a steak?

I always temp check meat – it’s a fool proof way of getting it just the way you want it. Here are the internal temperature measures for steak:
 125 – rare (seen here)
135 – medium rare
 145 – medium
150 – medium well
 160 – well (why???? haha)

How can you tell if your steak is done?

Making sure your steak is perfectly done is essential to a happy belly! A perfectly cooked medium rare (my fav) ha the most amazing texture – it’s so tender, it practically cuts with a fork!

Aside from the meat thermometer mentioned above, you can check your steak with just your tongs!

Press on your steak with the tongs. Now – hold your palm open and press on the inside of your palm where the base of your thumb is – if the steak feels like that – it’s rare. If you bring in one finger (towards making a fist) – then press that same spot – you’ll feel it’s a little firmer – that’s medium rare. Two fingers in – medium, three – medium well, fist – well. I like to do both the temp and press test – once I matched those up a few times – I’m pretty good with just the press test now.

Is steak in the air fryer good?

Hells yeah! I think this exact steak might be the best ribeye I have ever cooked in my life. Most of the time, the air fryer saves cooking time. To be frank – cooking steak in the air fryer isn’t really quicker than on the stove top or grill – but it’s much LESS MESSY!!! I love steak in a cast iron pan – but I always get smoke in my house! With the air fryer – no smoke!

Do you need to flip a steak in the air fryer?

Yes! Because hot air circulates around the steak – it cooks evenly all the way around. So – the steak cooks just fine without flipping. BUT – the side that’s down will benefit from that air flow! So flip it halfway through and you’ll enjoy it.

How do you store and reheat leftovers?

I’m on my own right now and a ribeye is definitely enough for two servings. Store leftover steak in airtight glass containers and refrigerate up to a week – or freeze up to three months. Reheat in the microwave for 2 minutes.

  1. 5 stars
I will give the recipe a 5 because it sounds good BUT does anybody have a conversion from countertop air fryer to air fryer feature built into Whirlpool oven.
