Chennai: Great Lakes Institute of Management, a premier B-School in India held its Annual Convocation at the CTC Convention Center, Chennai. Dr. Subra Suresh, President of Carnegie Mellon University, Pennsylvania, delivered the presidential address. Dr. M.S. Swaminathan, Founder of M.S. Swaminathan Research foundation and former Director General of Indian Council of Agricultural Research addressed the graduands through video and delivered the convocation address. A total of 725 students graduated this year across five different full-time and executive programs including PGPM, PGDM, PGXPM, PGPM (Flex) and PGP-BABI. Six best outgoing students and four academic toppers received Gold medals during the graduation ceremony.
Welcoming the gathering, Dr. Bala V Balachandran, Founder, Dean & Chairman, Great Lakes Institute of Management, said, “I am proud that every year Great Lakes has been reaching newer heights and we have been able to become one amongst the top 10 B-Schools in the country in such a short span of time. This is a testimony to our unique curriculum, world-class infrastructure, faculty and the quality of students we produce. To all the graduands here, I would like to emphasize the importance that Internet of Thongs (IoT) is going to have in your work place. Make yourselves prepared for the impact of IoT. I am positive that as an alumnus of this institute, you will continue to add value to your alma mater and your organization.”
Delivering his convocation address through a video message, Dr. M.S. Swaminathan said, “I am glad to be able to address this graduating class coming out of a great institute. Stepping out from a center of excellence such as this is going to help you all become great leaders. By graduating today, you are ending one phase and beginning the next phase of your career. Always remember the three M’s – Monitoring, Measurement and Management to progress ahead. ”
While addressing the graduands, Dr. Suresh Subra said, “As I celebrate your day, I remark that there is more work ahead which will draw into practice each one of the lessons you learnt. You are graduating at a time, when our country is undergoing unprecedented changes. You are all the products of Industrial revolution 4.4 that is impactingour economy. Your generation is more blessed and exposed than the previous ones.”
Further highlighting about the economy changes, and advising the graduands, Dr Subra added, “One of the areas to pay more attention is not just the creation of Science and Technology but also how it intersects human behavior. As we look forward to solve the issues of 21st century, I would like to add that focus on your career, focus on your individuality, and focus on your society – socially, locally, nationally and globally. Stay Curious and keep learning, he concluded.
Besides academic toppers, medals were awarded to nearly 70 graduands in the following categories - Dean’s Merit List, Domain toppers, best Empirical Study and Committee contributors.
One of the highlights of this year was, 31 graduands from PGPM and PGDM also received an additional AMP from University of Bordeaux. The AMP is a part of Great Lakes MOU with IAE Bordeaux University School of Management. These 31 students received their MBA (Level- M2) degree in European Business Administration and International Business from University of Bordeaux during Bordeaux University’s graduation ceremony earlier in May this year.These 31 students now have an European AMP in addition to PGPM or PGDM from Great lakes. Great Lakes is one of the few top B-Schools in the country that offers a dual MBA option from an international University.
