Greetings fellow Nerds!

I am making this post so that I can hopefully add a little bit of knowledge to the world that I myself had a butt of a time trying to find. I have identified the original make and model of eyeglasses that were used by Charlie Cox/Matt Murdock in the Netflix Daredevil series. Whenever I came across a good cosplay of Matt Murdock, and someone asked them what glasses they used, seemingly 100% of the time they say "I got the Magnoli Clothiers Murdock glasses and they are great!". I agree! They are great! I even own a pair and can confirm that they are very excellent! If you are looking to do a cosplay, I would highly recommend them. they are a bit pricey (~$100 CAD) , but well worth it! However... lol, In my tendency to hypefixate on things, I noticed that nobody ever linked to or said anything about what brand of glasses were actually used in the show. Luckily there was an auction on Propstore a few years back that sold a pair of the actual glasses used in the production. That's where I noticed the differences. very small differences. From like 2 feet away, you literally cant tell the difference, and with a whole costume, the difference is negligible! That being said, the differences are as follows: 1) on the actual glasses the bridge is concave and slightly narrower and attached a bit differently to the rims compared to the Magnoli ones, 2) the connection to the arms/temples is slightly more of a semicircle, 3) the arms/temples are just different, in a hard to describe way. so using the propstore photos, and a bit of csi zoom and enhance and a fair amount of guessing, I finally identified the actual glasses! so here they are! I hope this helps save you some frustration, and Good Luck!

Model:
OG x Oliver Goldsmith Oval/Pro Titanium Silver

buying info:
as far as I can tell, they are only sold in Japan. They might be kind rare or just popular. They are expensive if you buy them brand new. with shipping its like $400 CAD. New ones seem to come up occasionally, but the only time I've ever seen them in stock, I bought a pair and then they went out of stock. I have no idea if this is a normal stock item, or if I just got super lucky. They occasionally come up on various second hand marketplaces online in japan. they seem to sell at maybe $150-200 CAD ish depending on how well cared for they are. Avoid buying them on eBay, it seems like sellers from japan will list them on eBay, as well as local online marketplaces, but for even more that what they cost brand new. If you do buy from japan, you'll need to use a freight forwarding company since most sellers don't seem to ship outside of japan. I know very little about this, I looked it up on reddit and used "from Japan" and everything has turned out fine so far. just do some googling and go with whatever you feel comfortable with. the site I got mine from is https://store.pokerface-web.com/product.html?prod_cd=2700000440766
Be aware, there is also a "Silver" model. note the lack of "Titanium" before the silver. I cant find them on any website except when they occasionally show up in used markets. I don't know if that means they are knockoffs, just an older model, or what. but I do know that that's not what was sold at the Propstore auction.

you can see on the left photo, its very grainy, but I literally got all the details off of the arms/temples in that picture. I have no idea why this info isn't more accessible online.

Magnoli Murdock for comparison

extra-image-1720.jpg

If for some reason you want to 3d print the glasses and save money that way, message me and I can send you the files I made when I was very deep in the research hole lol. Having the real ones to compare to now, my 3d model is like a 95% match. resin printing would be they way to go, but its flimsy AF. only go down this route if you own a 3d printer, are desperate for a close match, want to paint them, and don't have $100 for the Magnoli ones lol. read into that what you will. but seriously, the Magnoli ones are great! They 100% are worth it, and they absolutely deserve your business. they make so many other great things too! Check them out! Magnoli Clothiers

I have the Magnoli set, and love them, but I also ordered the OG ones here, based on what you found, simply because like you, I'm a bit of a completionist, and I love the way these glasses look on me...So figured I could use a pair with my lens prescription as TV glasses too...Thank you for the hard work put in. It is ALWAYS cool to find a name to put to these things...You're a legend!
