Covid claims noted film maker
IMPHAL, Jul 11 : Popular filmmaker, Homen D’Wai, creator of the super-hit film, “Yaiskul Pakhang Angaoba”, has become the latest victim in the long list of film personalities who have fallen to the COVID-19.
He was 51.
Mourning the demise of the popular filmmaker on Saturday, Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS), in its condolence message, stated that Homen started his storytelling journey by directing music videos to hone his skill.
Saying that Homen D’Wai started his film career under the guidance of the pioneering filmmaker, Kh Ibohal Sharma, MSFDS continued that the noted filmmaker also directed several super hit feature films.
His latest project ‘Ei Actor Natte’ bagged the Best Popular Film award at the recently held 13th Manipur State Film Awards.
Some of his super-hit films include, Mitrang Keithel, Raja, Yaiskul Pakhang Angaoba, Dr Yaima, VDF Thasana, Eidi Thamoi Pikhre, Dr Hemogi Helloi etc.
Sharing the grief of the bereaved family, MSFDS termed the sad demise of Homen D’Wai as a big loss for Manipuri cinema.
As a mark of respect to the departed storyteller, candles were lit at the Manipuri Cinema Memorial at MSFDS complex at Palace Compound, it added.
A resident of Sagolband Thangjam Leirak, late Homen D’Wai left behind a nine-year-old daughter.
Film Forum Manipur (FFM) also mourned the untimely demise of reknowned director Homen D'Wai and singer Ningthoujam Nabachandra (Nabachandra) and prayed for the departed souls to rest in peace.
Cine Directors Guild Manipur, All Manipur Film Makers' & Producers' Association and Kangla Films, Manipur have extended their condolences on the demise of Homen D'Wai.
