Glasgow’s Christmas light switch-on ballot opens this week – here’s how to bag tickets

THE countdown is on to Glasgow's Christmas light switch-on and tickets are in high-demand.
Glasgow's Christmas celebration is nearing as families get ready to officially welcome the start of the festive season in the city next month.
The annual event - set to take place on November 17th - has once again seen a huge demand for tickets.
The Xmas celebration in George Square kicks off the festive season in Glasgow.
And organisers have finally announced when fans can apply for tickets.
The ballot is set to open today - Wednesday October 2 - and will stay open until Sunday October 6.

Festive fans can enter on the Glasgow Life website for free.
Tickets to the switch-on are also completely free, and they come with some interesting perks.
Lucky ticket holders will be able to see a preview of the Pavilion's new panto - Beauty and the Beastie.
Winners will also see the City Chambers illuminated with colour during a 30-minute light show.

Glasgow’s Lord Provost, Jacqueline McLaren, said: "The nights may be getting darker, but they provide a stunning backdrop for Glasgow’s spectacular Christmas Lights.
"Our switching on ceremony is a firm favourite in our cultural calendar, marking the countdown to Christmas.
"Fairy lights and a beautiful projection show will illuminate the City Chambers every night from November 17.
"Welcoming everyone into the heart of the city this festive season.”
Last year's show was hosted by Clyde 1 presenters George Bowie and Cassi Gillespie - who will again be in charge of Glasgow's big night.
George Bowie said: "We have been involved with Glasgow’s Christmas lights switch on in George Square for many years and we still absolutely love it. It’s by far, one of my festive highlights.”
Cassi Gillespie added: "I love the fact that Glasgow’s Christmas lights switch on is still as popular now as it ever was. Good luck to everyone in the ballot. I can’t wait to be part of it again for 2024."
