A BUSY Aberdeen bridge has been locked down as cops search the River Dee.

Officers were scrambled to the scene on Victoria Bridge after the alarm was raised around 8.35am.

It's understood that emergency services were alerted after a member of the public "spotted something in the water."

The road is currently closed and diversions for locals are in place.

A spokesperson for the local police said on Twitter: "Victoria Bridge in Aberdeen has been CLOSED.

"Diversions are in place and drivers are thanked for their patience."

Cops later confirmed that nothing had been recovered from the river.

The road was reopened shortly after 11am.

And it's understood that the incident is being treated as a false alarm with good intent.

We told you earlier how a pedestrian was seriously injured after being hit by a car in Aberdeen.

Mercy crews raced to the scene on Great Northern Road after the alarm was raised by an off-duty police officer at around 6.30am this morning.

The woman was rushed to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where her condition is described as serious.
