SCOTTISH actress Laura Fraser has confessed to getting 'told off' for pronouncing 'loch' the English way in hit new crime drama The Loch.

The Glasgow-born actress, who starred in Breaking Bad and The Missing, admitted that during filming on current hit ITV series The Loch she pronounced loch like those south of Hadrian's Wall, saying 'lock instead of loch'.

The 40-year-old TV and movie star, who was trained at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, said the Scottish director of the TV series set around Loch Ness was 'horrified' when she got it wrong.

Speaking this weekend, she told Weekend magazine: "I'm from Glasgow, but I also make the error of pronouncing the word 'loch' the English way, like 'lock', rather than the softer, Scottish 'loch'.

"The Scottish director is horrified!"

The show, in which the actress plays Detective Sergeant Annie Redford hunting a serial killer. is filmed around Loch Ness in the Scottish Highlands, home to the mythical Loch Ness Monster.

According to linguistics experts, Scots pronounce loch in the same way that most pronounce Johann Sebastian Bach's surname.
