Used Car of the Day: 2015 Audi A3

I am back from two days of playing with new cars in suburban Chicagoland, and I bring you a German treat -- this 2015 Audi A3.

The mileage is high -- 158K -- but this A3 otherwise looks clean. The seller claims it was meticulously maintained. The DSG oil was changed last summer and the differential and Haldex oils were changed a year ago. Interesting features include Apple CarPlay, Weather Tech floor mats, and carbon-fiber inlays.

Fog lamps have been added, and so have aftermarket 18-inch wheels and Michelin all-seasons. The front brakes are four-pot Brembos from an Audi A4.

The seller has the original carpet floor mats and a honeycomb grille available. The ask is $9,995.

Check it out here.

Tim Healey grew up around the auto-parts business and has always had a love for cars — his parents joke his first word was “‘Vette”. Despite this, he wanted to pursue a career in sports writing but he ended up falling semi-accidentally into the automotive-journalism industry, first at Consumer Guide Automotive and later at Web2Carz.com. He also worked as an industry analyst at Mintel Group and freelanced for About.com, CarFax, Vehix.com, High Gear Media, Torque News, FutureCar.com, Cars.com, among others, and of course Vertical Scope sites such as AutoGuide.com, Off-Road.com, and HybridCars.com. He’s an urbanite and as such, doesn’t need a daily driver, but if he had one, it would be compact, sporty, and have a manual transmission.

Previous Used Car of the Day entries that spent decades in the weeds would still be a better purchase than this car. The sucker who takes on this depreciated machine will learn the hard way that a cheap German car is actually a very expensive way to drive around.

I bought one of these for the eldest. $15K, but only 40K miles. Good to see they last to 158K though, because the next car is with his wallet.

  • Mgh57 Regardless of your views climate change you would think cleaner air would be in everyone's interest.
  • 3SpeedAutomatic Never paid much attention to the author of the motor magazine articles I read as a kid. More interested in the content of the story. As for the last two or three decades, have not bought any motor magazines. Over the top obsession with Mustangs, Camaros, Hemi V8s, & BMWs....pure bling!! Only look at them when waiting for my flight at the airport. More focused on auto industry history. Found a book by Charles K Hyde about the early history of Chrysler. Appears the company was constantly in and out of near failure multiple decades before Lee Iacocca even came into the picture. Interesting reading. 🚗🚗🚗
  • Andrew IntellChoice and cars.com had a slew of reviews in the late 90’s. I poured more of my life into those sites than aol chat rooms in the day!
  • 3SpeedAutomatic No doubt, Stellantis has a responsibility to control emissions. However, the locals need to throttle their complaints or the auto plant could easily move to the South or Mexico and Detroit would be further in the hole. Don't bite the hand that feeds you.
  • SCE to AUX "Nissan's zero-gravity seats were all-day comfortable." I've always liked the Armada, and this would be a great road-tripper - except for the fuel economy.
