About Madha Gaja Raja

TECHNICAL

From its very beginning, Madha Gaja Raja reminds you how dated this film is. However, narrated in a typical Sundar C fashion, the film does offer you multiple laugh out loud moments that are genuinely funny, but still has its own share of dated and politically incorrect stuff that sticks out. The first half takes its own sweet tangent with a series of seemingly-disconnected moments that are majorly intended for humour, and a chunk of these moments go to actor Santhanam. The story truly takes off only within the second half. But as the audience has come to expect from a Sundar C comedy offering, story really does not take much precedence, but the director aims to deliver some mindless entertainment. In that regard, Madha Gaja Raja really offers an entertaining potboiler with the right dose of larger than life humour, action sequences, and songs. Even for a film that was made over a decade ago, it is impressive how most of the content still sticks and manages to entertain without making any pretenses.

PERFORMANCES

As far as performances go, this film majorly belongs to Santhanam, whose comedy sequences are a source of great relief within the film. At the same time, as an audience, one would really wish for Santhanam to go back to his comedic roots, as his performance in the film truly reminds us how much of the comedian in him is missed. Vishal plays the leading man with flair, and his energy truly carries the film and the narrative forward. Varalaxmi and Anjali play the two leading leadies in the film have played their parts quite well, as much as the screenplay allows them to, and with comic timing to note. Sonu Sood plays the main villain in an all too familiar performance.

VERDICT

Madha Gaja Raja is a fun, mindless watch that has plenty of laugh out loud moments, and offers a generous dose of entertainment, but also has its own share of dated dialogues and comedy that may not stick well in this day and for the kind of audience that throngs theatres now.
