Mumbai: To commemorate the start of 150th birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, students of Kalyan Railway School have painted a local train in tricolour. Images of Gandhi ji have also been painted on the train coaches. News agency ANI reported that the students have taken the initiative also to create awareness for Swachh Bharat (Clean India) mission in Maharashtra.

The Indian Express reported that three diesel locomotives and one electric locomotive are also being painted in the colours of the national flag and being deployed in different railway sections to mark 149th birth anniversary of Gandhi ji.

The report said these locos will be deployed on the Central Railway (CR) section and attached to south and Konkan-bound trains.

An official at the Kalyan shed – which is among the largest loco sheds for Mumbai sections - was quoted as saying that they chose to paint only those loco engines that were in the shed for maintenance.

One of the painters involved in the exercise was quoted as saying that they kept the theme simple but ensured the message of cleanliness and Mahatma’s birth anniversary was highlighted.
