Welcome to another edition of Tom’s Monday MADness, the seemingly endless look back at 25 years of my work in MAD magazine, complete and unabridged! This week is part 2 of the work I did for MAD #10, December 2019. Part one was a parody of the TV show “The Handmaid’s Tale”. This second feature is a “part 2” of a sorts… the second (and so far last) of the “Xander and Kam” movie review features. Xander and Kam were supposed to be YouTubers who do a movie review show, allowing MAD to have a single feature that would contain multiple current film “spoofs”. The… READ MORE

MAD #43 drops today and it contains 16 pages of new material (including the cover and Fold-in) including the first TV parody since “The Manmaid’s Tale” in MAD #10, Dec 2019! Desmond Devlin wrote and I drew a four pag spoof of “Squid game”. Last month also had a number of pages of new content, including a short parody of film, “The Substance”. Above is the first page of Des and my “Squid Game” spoof. What? You want to read the full parody? Go out and buy a copy, clod! READ MORE

I warned you I was going to stubbornly finish this pointless trek through my work at MAD magazine, even if it killed me and bored you to death as well. To that end, here we go with another chapter of this idiocy. This week we look back at what I thought might be the last TV show parody I would ever do for the magazine, but the issue that drops tomorrow proved me wrong (more on that later). This piece was a parody of the delightfully uplifting and light situation comedy “The Handmaid’s Tale”. This spoof was written by Tammy Golden and first appeared in… READ MORE

Hey now! I am really behind in posting these looks back at my work for MAD because I have switched the majority of my social media/interweb efforts to my FREE weekly newsletter. If you are still coming here for new content, you are looking in the wrong place. Subscribe to my newsletter here. Still, I’m almost at the end of the road for the work I have done for MAD, so I might as well finish up the series here. Today we look at the second of two pieces I had in MAD #9 aka the “Tarantino Issue”. The cover and the spoof of the… READ MORE

Welcome to another moronic MAD Monday, as we creep quietly towards the end of MAD‘s run as a magazine of new content in our look back my the work for the magazine. We’ve reached MAD #9, Oct 2019, the issue where its existence as the magazine we all knew and loved for (at the time) 67 years came to an end. Yes, MAD continued (and continues) to print a new issue every two months. Yes, there was new content in the next few issues after this one. However, this was the last issue that was distributed on newsstands. Starting with the next issue, you could… READ MORE

Welcome to 2025! We are back to normal after the holidays with yet another step on the long and tedious road that has been a look back at my work for MAD Magazine. We are nearing the end of the line in terms of regular new material I did for the magazine. This “movie parody” appeared in MAD #8, Aug 2019. That issue is the penultimate one before MAD officially stopped newsstand distribution, which was really the beginning of the end of the MAD we all knew. I don’t consider this feature a movie parody in the true sense. A movie parody is aimed at… READ MORE

Here we go with another stumble down the icy path that was my work for MAD Magazine. This week we revisit the first (and only) entry of a great feature idea for the freshly rebooted MAD, “Movies MAD Missed!” Her’s MAD’s spoof of “A Christmas Story” written by my CLAPTRAP co-conspirator Desmond Devlin and first appearing in MAD #5, Feb 2019. Wait, isn’t this movie almost 40 years old? MAD just got around to doing a parody in 2019? As Ralphie’s dad might say… What the $%#@&*©#$@!??!. Here’s the story of how this came about. Back when Bill Morrison was about to take over as… READ MORE

Here we go with another edition of Monday MADness, where we continue our shambling lurch down the Trail of Terrible that was my work for MAD Magazine. I timed this post for Halloween week for obvious reasons. This week we look back at “Sven Golly… It’s Svengoolie!”, written by Ian Boothby and first appearing in MAD #4, Dec 2018. This is an interesting feature because it’s not technically a parody of the “Svengoolie” TV show. They use his actual name instead of a spoof version like “Svengoofy”, so it can’t be a parody. Instead it’s played like an actual episode of the show, the gag… READ MORE
