While the motorcycle industry has come to a standstill here in the Philippines due to the COVID-19 crisis, there are still some significant events related to two-wheelers happening in the international arena.
Just recently, Honda took the wraps off the 2020 Forza 300. If it ever lands on Philippine shores, this maxi-scoot will find itself competing directly with the Yamaha XMax, which currently reigns over the 300cc scooter market. Although they’re not tollway-legal, these sub-400cc scooters are favored by riders because they’re convenient and fun to ride in the city and on open stretches.
Honda’s upgraded super commuter is powered by a 279cc liquid-cooled, fuel-injected single-cylinder engine that makes 24.8hp at 7,000rpm and 27.2Nm at 5,750rpm. This mill has been carried over from the previous model, but the 2020 Forza 300 is the first scooter to be equipped with Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC), which helps in controlling rear-wheel traction. HSTC can be switched on and off.
The suspension system relies on a 33mm telescopic fork up front and preload-adjustable twin shock absorbers in the rear. Stopping power is delivered by disc brakes and ABS. What’s more, this 182kg Forza 300 is the perfect ride for the average Pinoy rider, thanks to its 30.7-inch seat height. The bike is 8kg lighter than its predecessor despite having a larger-diameter rear wheel, owing to its redesigned chassis and new frame.
Additional updates to the 2020 model come in the form of red contrast stitching on the leather seat, red rim accents, and a gray top box with 45 liters of storage capacity. The new Forza 300 also has a huge under-seat compartment that can swallow two full-face helmets. Carried over from the previous model, meanwhile, are full LED lighting, keyless entry, the adjustable windscreen, and the semi-digital cluster.
Reports say the first market to receive the model will be India, and that units will be scheduled for initial release there by early next year. That’s quite a long waiting period. When can we expect to see the Forza 300 here? Honda Philippines—we’ll be waiting to hear from you.
