Hotels + Resorts The 12 Best Hotels in Jackson Hole Plan your Jackson Hole trip around these editor-favorite and award-winning hotels. By Lydia Mansel Lydia Mansel Lydia Mansel is a writer with more than eight years of experience editing and writing for both brands and online publications—with a particular focus on travel, fashion, and lifestyle. She’s also the founder of the travel site justpacked.com. Travel + Leisure Editorial Guidelines Updated on September 10, 2024 Comments Lobby of The Virginian Lodge. Photo: Knoxy Knox / The Virginian Lodge Jackson Hole, Wyoming is one of those destinations with a reputation that precedes itself. A gateway to both Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone, the valley is a hub for year-round outdoor recreation, wildlife viewing, and breathtaking scenery (most notably, the craggy, snow-capped Tetons). It’s also known for its cowboy culture, world-class dining scene, and some of the best hotels in the United States. Once you experience this special brand of Western magic — whether it’s on a crisp fall day in Teton Village or a buzzy summer night at the rodeo — it immediately becomes clear why more than 2.6 million people make their way to Jackson Hole every year. Given Jackson Hole’s popularity and seasonality, most trips require a bit of forethought and strategic planning. That includes researching and booking any tours, rentals, or accommodations ahead of time. As a travel writer, hotel reviewer, and frequent Jackson Hole visitor, I can certainly help with the latter. Over the last few years, I’ve stayed in most of the area’s best hotels, from personality-filled properties like The Wort and The Virginian Lodge to the ultra-luxurious Caldera House and the Four Seasons Resort and Residences Jackson Hole. Below, I rounded up my absolute favorites, as well as a select few that have been granted the T+L stamp of approval in either the World’s Best Awards or the annual It List. Why I’m the Expert Lydia Mansel spends a significant amount of time in Jackson Hole, traveling to the destination multiple times a year and staying anywhere from a few days to several weeks. While there, she’s experienced all types of accommodations — from Airbnbs and guest ranches to rustic mountain lodges and the area’s most lavish hotels. Caldera House Guest suite in Caldera House. Courtesy of Caldera House Book Now What We Like Each of the two- and four-bedroom suites comes with a fully equipped chef’s kitchen. What to Consider Given the hotel’s high-end amenities and enviable location, nightly rates are steep. Caldera House landed on the It List in 2019, and it hasn’t lost an ounce of charm or chicness since. I experienced this Teton Village hideout in the middle of winter — when its on-site adventure outpost, “the Mudroom,” comes in handy for ski rentals, tune-ups, and last-minute gear needs — and can confirm it doesn’t get any cozier or more comfortable than this eight-suite hotel. When you’re not taking to the slopes at neighboring Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, you’ll be hard-pressed to leave your extra-spacious accommodations — all of which are outfitted with fireplaces, bathtubs, and their own laundry facilities. I also found myself taking advantage of the fitness studio, heated outdoor infinity plunge pool, and cedar dry sauna. Courtesy of Four Seasons Resorts Book Now Also available to book at Hotels.com What We Like Four Seasons’ beds are famously dreamy, and the best night’s sleep I’ve ever had occurred in a mountain-view room of the Jackson Hole hotel. What to Consider Situated toward the perimeter of Teton Village, the hotel maintains a quiet, calm atmosphere all year round; if you want a livelier experience consider a more centrally located property in Jackson. There’s a certain level of excellence that all Four Seasons hotels strive to maintain, and the Jackson Hole property hits the mark — then goes above and beyond. A winner in the 2023 and 2024 World’s Best Awards, the 155-room Teton Village resort sits at the base of Jackson House Mountain Resort, but its true sheen stems from the team’s attention to detail and unwavering commitment to perfection. Instead of resting on its laurels season after season, the staff at the Four Seasons Resort and Residences Jackson Hole ensures there’s always a bit of newness and excitement for guests to discover. In 2024, that effort included a new grab-and-go market — aptly called First Chair — the 80 Proof speakeasy, which is hidden behind a painting, and a total renovation of its five-bedroom Granite Residence. What to Consider The hotel mostly caters to adults, so kids may grow a bit bored or restless while on property. The Rusty Parrot has had a presence in Jackson since 1990, but its latest iteration — a full-scale renovation following a fire in 2019 — is brand new. I was able to check out the family-owned hotel just a couple of weeks after it reopened its doors in July (read my full review here), and I was thoroughly impressed with every thoughtful amenity and design decision the team implemented. Each floor is accented by Western art from owner Ron Harrison’s personal collection as well as pieces salvaged from the fire; the guest rooms are outfitted with high-end linens, luxurious bath products, and spacious soaking tubs. If you want to achieve the highest level of serenity, I recommend booking a massage at Body Sage Spa. Just be sure to give yourself plenty of time, either before or after your treatment, to sit in the outdoor relaxation spa. Knoxy Knox / The Virginian Lodge Book Now Also available to book at Hotels.com What We Like Part of the Outbound Hotels hospitality group, The Virginian Lodge reopened in 2022 with a modern look that’s perfectly balanced with retro Jackson Hole charm. What to Consider The hotel is located a short drive away from Town Square, though you can certainly walk if the weather permits. The neon Virginian Lodge sign is hard to miss as you drive out of Jackson, heading toward Hoback Junction or Wilson and Teton Village. It signals an entire experience, one that isn’t limited to a just comfortable bed to lay your head at night. With a reservation at the 185-room hotel (165 rooms, 20 suites), you’ll have a world of expertly branded experiences to explore. In the lobby, there’s a whole host of curated goodies — hats, T-shirts, mugs, and more — to shop. When you’re hungry, pop into The Virginian Restaurant (a favorite Jackson breakfast spot) or Billy’s Burgers (one of the best gluten-free burgers in town, in my opinion). For drinks, there’s The Virginian Saloon and Midtown Liquor, the only drive-thru liquor store in Jackson. And when you’re not out hiking or exploring Grand Teton National Park, you can kick back by the all-season pool or outdoor fire pits. It features a swimming pool, on-site bar, on-site burger joint, and a huge outdoor lawn where people can play bags, enjoy camp fires, and even practice yoga. There are plenty of Adirondack chairs around the property where you can spend a quiet morning sipping coffee or a more eventful evening enjoying a cocktail and making s'mores (supplies are provided by the hotel!). The rooms are newly redecorated and spacious with all the comforts you would expect, and even feature blackout curtains, so you can truly relax after a long day. After spending three nights out in the woods, I returned to The Virginian and the shower was the greatest treat I've ever experienced."–Taylor Fox, Editor Teton Mountain Lodge & Spa Fire place lounge in Teton Mountain Lodge. Courtesy of Teton Mountain Lodge Book Now Also available to book at Hotels.com What We Like If you’re coming to Jackson Hole to ski, you’ll appreciate the convenience of Teton Mountain Lodge & Spa’s slopeside location. What to Consider The guest bathrooms are in need of an update. The beauty of Teton Mountain Lodge & Spa lies in its straightforward approach to hospitality. It doesn’t have as many frills and five-star touches as other Teton Village hotels, but I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing. Instead, it focuses on the features and amenities that guests (myself included) actually use, the ones that lead to a restful, relaxing stay. These are things like a well-outfitted fitness center, indoor and outdoor hot tubs and pools, a full-service spa, and an après-ski bar and restaurant, the Spur Restaurant and Bar, that serves three meals a day. To ensure guests have a well-rounded Jackson Hole experience, the hotel team also works to curate unique adventure packages. In 2024, that includes a luxurious “Starry Night Package,” where guests participate in a private rooftop stargazing session, guided by an astronomer, a four-hour spa treatment, a private tasting dinner at Spur Restaurant, and more. Courtesy of The Lodge at Jackson Hole Book Now Also available to book at Hotels.com What We Like The heated indoor-outdoor pool is a treat in every season. What to Consider To get to downtown Jackson, you’ll either want to drive or take the hotel’s complimentary shuttle; otherwise, it’s about a 30-minute walk. In July 2024, The Lodge at Jackson Hole announced the completion of its three-year, $8 million renovation. The makeover extended throughout the property, with all the common areas receiving updated looks and furnishings and each of the 154 guest rooms experiencing a total renovation. The rooms were designed, according to a press release, to be “reminiscent of a cozy cabin retreat,” albeit with modern touches, like floor-to-ceiling tiled fireplaces, marble bathrooms with rain showers, and private balconies. Travelers of all ages will also appreciate the pool renovation, featuring the indoor-outdoor heated pool and jetted spas. The hotel also has an impressive breakfast buffet, a fitness center, and a cocktail lounge. Courtesy of The Cloudveil Book Now Also available to book at Expedia.com What We Like The lobby is extremely remote-work-friendly; there’s strong Wifi, a long table, and a variety of cozy seating arrangements throughout the space. What to Consider Given the property’s location in the center of town, the mountain views aren’t as dramatic as at more remote Jackson Hole hotels. Convenience meets character at The Cloudveil, a 100-room hotel that opened in Town Square in 2021. Located just steps away from the iconic antler arches, the property is within walking distance of nearly everything in Jackson — but it's the modern-meets-rustic interiors, extra-friendly service, and delightful rooftop bar and outdoor pool that led to World’s Best Awards wins in 2023 and 2024. While I’ve only stayed at The Cloudveil once — and loved the snack stations on every floor and the custom wood furnishings in the room — I’ve found myself returning time and time again to the hotel’s common spaces. The fireplace in the ground-floor lobby, paired with comfortable couches and Western-themed coffee table books, is always inviting, especially when the Wyoming temperatures drop below freezing. Courtesy of Hotel Terra Jackson Hole Book Now Also available to book at Expedia.com What We Like The on-site restaurant, Il Villaggio Osteria, is a must-try, whether you’re staying at the hotel or not. What to Consider The guest rooms skew more corporate than some guests may prefer. Tucked in the middle of a few different Teton Village hotels — including its sibling property, Teton Mountain Lodge & Spa — Hotel Terra feels like the hidden gem of the neighborhood. I first stayed at the property in the summer, when the weather was ideal for the rooftop infinity pool, but I’ve also visited in the winter, when the morning and late afternoon traffic to and from the mountain made me grateful to be staying so close to the slopes. While I wouldn’t say there’s anything particularly noteworthy about the guest rooms (the beds are plenty comfortable and the walls felt decently soundproof), my favorite areas in the hotel are the common spaces. At night, Il Villaggio Osteria is delightfully busy, and the fitness center overlooking the pool and the Teton Village Commons is bright and airy. What to Consider The basement gym is on the smaller side; it feels a bit cramped when there are more than two people working out at the same time. Jackson has certainly experienced its fair share of changes over the last few decades, but The Wort Hotel remains a stalwart character on Glenwood and Broadway. As you enter the lobby, you’re greeted by the grand staircase, plush furniture, floor-to-ceiling pine wood wall paneling, and stone fireplaces. The combination immediately signals that this is a place where time slows and the stresses of everyday life momentarily subside. Whenever I’ve stayed at The Wort Hotel, my first order of business has been grabbing a drink and enjoying the live music at the Silver Dollar Bar & Grill, which you can enter through the hotel. If I’m there in the winter, I’ll also carve out at least an hour or two to read by the fireplace. Courtesy of Amangani Book Now What We Like The view of the Tetons from Amangani is one of the best in Jackson Hole. What to Consider The hotel is a bit dated and in need of upgrades if it wants to remain on par with its competitors. When travelers book a stay at Amangani, a winner in the 2024 World’s Best Awards, they’re usually in search of the luxury and seclusion the Aman brand is famous for. The Jackson Hole outpost has both, but it’s really known for its unbeatable mountain scenery. Nearly everywhere you go on the property — from your own personal suite to the sandstone terrace, heated pool, and whirlpool tub — the Tetons lay in the distance. True to the Aman style, the decor is minimalistic, although it brings in touches of Western flair, providing the perfect supplement to the natural beauty of the great outdoors. What to Consider The overall aesthetic of the resort is a bit darker and, as the name suggests, rustic. Recently appearing in the 2023 and 2024 World’s Best Awards, the Rustic Inn Creekside Resort & Spa is one of the best Jackson Hole hotels for multi-generational travel. Not only do guests have a range of activities to choose from — including a spa, fitness center, outdoor swimming pool, and hot tub — but they also have Flat Creek right in their backyard and a number of Adirondack chairs to relax in. If you’re hoping to snag extra-roomy accommodations, book the two-bedroom Spa Suite; it also comes with personalized butler service, daily cook-to-order breakfast, a private backyard with seasonal fire pits, and an outdoor hot tub. What to Consider The nightly rates can be surprisingly steep in peak season. If you want the comforts you might find at an upscale slopeside hotel but with a downtown Jackson location, book a room at Hotel Jackson. The family-owned 55-room hotel stands out in the world of Jackson Hole hotels — even receiving a nod in the 2023 World’s Best Awards — thanks to the rooftop hot tub, gas fireplaces in each guest room, and thoughtful amenities like L’Occitane toiletries, complimentary shuttles to Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, and daily freshly baked cookies. The Details: Location: JacksonAccessibility: The hotel doesn’t advertise ADA-compliant rooms, so it’s recommended to call the property if you have specific questions or concernsNearby Attractions: Jackson Hole History Museum, National Elk Refuge, Cowboy CoffeeLoyalty Programs: Stash Hotel RewardsPet Policy: Pets not allowedParking: Valet parking, $20 per nightRates: Starting from $363 a night Know Before You Go Consider renting a car While the town of Jackson is easily walkable and there are Ubers and Lyfts in the area, the best way to get around is definitely by car — especially if you’re planning to explore the nearby national parks or more remote areas. Car rentals are available both at the airport and in town; the rental companies that aren’t located at the terminal offer free shuttles to their locations. Embrace the great outdoors There’s a reason Jackson Hole is one of the most popular destinations in the West: the outdoor activities and mountain scenery are second to none. In the winter, there’s downhill skiing and snowboarding at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort and Snow King Mountain Resort. Travelers can also choose to go cross-country skiing, snow-shoeing, or snowmobiling. In the warmer months, everyone participates in some form of hiking, horseback riding, rafting, fly fishing, mountain biking, or swimming. The possibilities are endless — so pack your suitcase accordingly. Visit in the off-season Summer is, by far and away, Jackson Hole’s most popular season for tourists. With travelers using the valley as their base camp for journeys into Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone, the roads become congested, dinner reservations are hard to come by, and hotel prices skyrocket. If you plan your visit for the shoulder season (April, May, October, or November), you’ll experience a quieter, more peaceful destination, and you’ll be able to find better deals on accommodations.
