Mattel will be bringing its iconic portfolio of brands to life in an all-new way at the resort destination, breaking ground later this year in Bonner Springs, Kansas, the company shared with Travel + Leisure this week. Located around 22 miles from downtown Kansas City, MO, this is the second theme park of its kind, with the previously announced first Mattel Adventure Park expected to open in Arizona in 2024. Most notably, guests can step into the world of Barbie and experience the adrenaline pumping world of Hot Wheels, alongside other beloved and familiar brands, including Pictionary and UNO. The theme park will feature attractions also located at its first location in Arizona, including two highly immersive Hot Wheels roller coasters, double-looping Hot Wheels Twin Mill Racer and Hot Wheels Bone Shaker, emblazoned with the famous hot rod’s skull design. A highly anticipated, “larger-than-life” Barbie Beach House will also be at the new resort and will invite guests to explore the world of the iconic doll. Here, park goers will find a Barbie-themed flying theater, interactive retail and merchandise shop, and The Barbie Rooftop restaurant and bar. Hologram technology will “bring Barbie to life right before guests’ eyes.” The theme park promises “full-throttle fun for racing enthusiasts of all ages” as well as family-friendly, experiential-based rides and attractions based on other beloved Mattel brands, including Thomas & Friends: World of Sodor. Mattel Adventure Park will also have a Magic 8 Ball inspired 18-hole mini golf experience and a custom climb UNO structure that “delivers nostalgia and adventure for all ages.” For the littlest park goers, there will be a dedicated space for them that includes indoor playscapes. Additionally, guests can experience He-Man vs. Skeletor Laser Tag, a “massive laser tag arena in the likeness of the iconic Castle Grayskull fortress” from Masters of the Universe. “Mattel Adventure Park Kansas City will bring our iconic brands to life with epic roller coasters, family-friendly attractions, an immersive theatre, themed dining, and so much more,” Josh Silverman, Chief Franchise Officer at Mattel, said in a press release shared with T+L. “We are thrilled to expand these themed entertainment destinations and invite new fans to experience the world of Mattel in all-new ways as they create lasting memories with loved ones.” “We are bringing Mattel’s powerhouse brands to life through state-of-the-art technology and engaging experiences,” shared Mark Cornell, President of Epic Resort Destinations. “This new destination is sure to provide infinite fun for the whole family.” Additional information and a sneak peek of Mattel Adventure Park is expected in the future. The project is a licensing partnership between Mattel, Inc. and Epic Resort Destinations.
