If you enter China through Beijing and intend to transfer to a domestic flight on the same airline, immigration, baggage reclaim and recheck-in is usually necessary. If however, you will transfer to continue your flight outside China, these days they seem to have arranged it so passengers don't need to recheck-in, although there are passport and security checks on the way to the gate. In Beijing airport, if you hold an interline international ticket, you don't have to go through the immigration and customs. If you miss the flight because of the security process, then you need to endorse and the company may not take responsibility for it.
