Emma is a marine scientist, educator, and writer with more than 16 years of professional experience. She is also a member of Women in Climate Tech.
As an expert in ecology, marine science, and climate change, Emma has studied the navigational techniques of sea turtles and whether they use the acoustics of the surf-zone as a cue for nesting. Her research was presented at the 25th Annual Symposium on Sea Turtle Biology and Conservation. In addition, she has taken part in a wide range of citizen science projects including monitoring turtle nesting sites in Costa Rica and working on research vessels from Scripps Institution of Oceanography.
Emma also writes for energy companies and sustainable consultancy companies with a focus on how to create climate resilience and transition towards a fossil-free future. Her experience carrying out detailed habitat surveys for local governments helps inform her writing about conservation and ecology. She was also chief editor and helped launch Evolving Science, a website dedicated to disseminating the latest scientific research in fields such as energy, bioengineering, and space technologies.
Emma lives partially off-grid in Southern Spain, working as a writer focused on climate and conservation-based topics.
Emma holds a postgraduate certificate in Secondary Science Education from the University of Exeter, a master's degree in Marine Science, and a bachelor's degree in Equine Science from Hartpury College.
