The collective efforts of the UT Education Department and Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 10, helped 14-year-old local fencer Gunjan to get her passport in a day to confirm her entry to the Asian Fencing Championship to be held in Qatar in February.

Gunjan, who won the gold medal in the epee individual event during the ongoing national championship in Rudarpur, had come to the city to appear before the passport officials and left for Rudarpur again to participate in the team events.

“She is a minor and needed a passport to represent the country in the next month’s Asian Championship. She booked her berth in the Indian team after winning the gold medal, but she was not having a passport. The department ensured that she got her passport,” said an official.
