Overview

The Magic Carpet on the Celebrity Edge
The Magic Carpet. Celebrity Cruises

Celebrity Edge Magic Carpet

The most-talked about new feature is the Celebrity Edge Magic Carpet. Connected to the starboard side of the cruise ship, the tennis-court-sized Magic Carpet serves multiple purposes as it moves up and down the side of the ship. It's not an elevator, so guests can't "ride" on it, but when it's locked onto deck 2, it serves as a place to board the tenders (Edge Launches) and provides access to the Destination Gateway

When the Magic Carpet is locked on deck 5, it offers al fresco casual dining to the guests, and when locked on deck 14, it provides an extension to the main pool area, offering drinks, live music, and terrific views of the sea below. The Magic Carpet glides all the way up to deck 16, where it transforms into a specialty restaurant aptly named, "Dinner on the Edge". Dining under the stars is always magical, and the Magic Carpet delivers.

Resort Deck

Pool deck on the Celebrity Edge
Celebrity Cruises

Large cruise ships are much like a resort, and the Celebrity Edge even has a Resort Deck, complete with outdoor swimming pool, sea view cabanas, Rooftop Garden, 400-yard jogging track, and an adults-only Solarium. One difference about the outdoor pool deck on the Celebrity Edge is that the focus is on the sea or the port of call rather than the pool. The cabanas, seen on the right side of the image above, face the sea and guests sitting by the pool can see it easily. One of the two 22-foot-tall martini glass-shaped hot tubs can be seen on the left side of the pool.

Rooftop Garden

Celebrity Cruises

The Celebrity Solstice-Class cruise ships have their rooftop lawn clubs, and the Celebrity Edge has a Rooftop Garden. This huge garden even has its own horticulturist, and guests will love sitting outdoors under the sun or under the stars. They can also participate in games and other activities during the day. The Rooftop Garden has its own casual grill and guests can also dine and watch movies in the evening with Celebrity's "A Taste of Film" concept.

Solarium

Solarium
Celebrity Cruises

The Solarium is a popular adults-only relaxation spot on other Celebrity cruise ships, and past guests will be delighted to know that the concept has been continued on the Celebrity Edge. The large swimming pool is available year-round, and guests will have good views of the sea from its large windows. The popular Juice Bar and Spa Cafe have also been carried over to the new ship.

The Retreat

Retreat Lounge
Celebrity Cruises

The Retreat is a new area on the Celebrity Edge that is reserved for suite guests. Twelve percent (176) of the 1,467 staterooms on the new ship are suites, more than doubling the five percent seen on other Celebrity ships.

The Retreat has three suite-only exclusive areas. The Retreat Sundeck has luxury seating, a large swimming pool, and cabanas. Suite guests can have drinks and treats served to them from the exclusive Retreat Pool Bar. With seating for only 190 guests, it feels quite special.

The Retreat Lounge is the second exclusive area for suite guests. It is located one deck below the Retreat Sundeck and is open 24/7. This lounge features a concierge who is available to make specialty dining, spa, or other arrangements on or off the Celebrity Edge. Suite guests have great views from both sides of the Retreat Lounge, so they can enjoy the view while nibbling on complimentary snacks and beverages.

Iconic Suite

Iconic Suite
Celebrity Cruises

The two Iconic Suites are a new type of accommodation on the Celebrity Edge cruise ship. These suites are over 2,500 square feet (larger than many homes) and have amazing views from their location one deck above the bridge. These suite guests can truthfully say their views are better than the captains. The veranda on each of these suites is especially impressive since it is over 700 square feet, has its own hot tub and cabana, and offers plenty of room to sunbathe or entertain guests.

The Iconic Suites can sleep 2-6 guests, have butler service and access to The Retreat, and the master bath is an impressive 199 square feet.

The two-deck Edge Villas are also a new type of suites on the Celebrity Edge cruise ship. These six suites have over 900 square feet each and offer amazing views forward from their large verandas. They also have private three-foot-deep plunge pools and easy walk-out access to The Retreat Sundeck. Guests staying in Edge Villas have a butler and access to all the venues of The Retreat.

Sky Suite

Celebrity Cruises

The 146 Sky Suites are the smallest suites on the Celebrity Edge, with 398 square feet and a 79 square foot veranda. Although these suites are smaller (and less expensive), guests staying in the Sky Suites have access to The Retreat venues.

One distinct feature of the Sky Suites is the placement of the bed. As seen in the image above, it faces the sea and offers terrific views through the large floor to ceiling glass doors. The Sky Suites also have a window in the bathroom, so daylight can flow through the cabin into the bath. (The window can also be covered.)

Celebrity Edge Cabin with Infinite Veranda

Celebrity Edge Cabin with Infinite Veranda
Celebrity Cruises

Those who have cruised on new river cruise ships will recognize the veranda design in the 918 Celebrity Edge cabin with Infinite Veranda. Like the river ships, these verandas can be used in all types of weather since they are like a sunroom when the outside window is closed and like a traditional cruise ship balcony cabin when the outside window is open and the door separating the veranda and the rest of the cabin is closed.

These Infinite Veranda cabins measure a generous 243 square feet, the verandas are 42 square feet, and the bathrooms are 30 square feet, which is 10 percent larger than the Solstice-class veranda cabins. Celebrity has doubled the number of drawers in the cabin, which will be appreciated by those who travel with lots of stuff.

Destination Getaway

Destination Getaway
Celebrity Cruises

In addition to adding new common area venues and stateroom accommodations, Celebrity Cruise executives are also focusing on immersing their guests in the ship's destinations. The new Destination Gateway is part of this process.

The Destination Gateway is on deck 2 and is designed to be a welcoming and comfortable transition environment for guests as they get ready to board the Edge Launches. Highlights of the port of call will be featured on large screens, making the wait time enjoyable and educational.

When not being used in the tendering process, Destination Gateway features opportunities for guests to learn more about their ports of call, research shore excursions, learn more about the Celebrity Edge, or shop at Regional Bazaar Trunk Shows.

The ship alternates two, seven-day itineraries—one to the eastern Caribbean and the other to the western Caribbean. These can be booked for a 14-night voyage since they feature different ports of call. With all the "new" on the ship, it might take 14 nights to see and experience it all!
