Virgin Flying Club Revamps Household Accounts
Virgin Atlantic Flying Club has introduced household accounts for everybody, allowing families or groups to pool their Virgin Points for easier reward redemptions. Back in 2021, Virgin Flying Club released a points transfer option which was only available to Gold and Silver members, now it’s open to everybody, household accounts simplify the process by automatically pooling points, with no fees or manual transfers required. This makes it more convenient to book flights, upgrades, and other perks.
How Household Accounts Work
Up to ten members of the same household can link their Flying Club accounts and combine their points into a shared balance. Each member keeps their individual Flying Club status, but points are pooled for collective use. The head of the household account manages redemptions.
Key details include:
- Group Composition: The head of the household can invite up to nine individuals who live at the same address.
- Redemptions: The head of the household can use pooled points for any member.
- Tier Status: Members’ status and benefits remain independent.
- Virgin Red Points: Points earned through Virgin Red do not automatically pool but can be transferred upon request.
Benefits of Household Accounts
This new feature eliminates the frustration of fragmented balances, making it easier to combine small balances for premium rewards and plan group travel without managing multiple accounts.
For example, if four members of a household fly roundtrip between London and Orlando in Economy Classic as Red tier members, they could collectively earn 17,372 points—enough for several reward seats starting at just 6,000 points each.
How It Compares
Similar to British Airways’ Avios Household Accounts, Virgin’s version stands out for its flexibility and simplicity. However, Virgin’s requirement for all members to reside at the same address may limit its appeal compared to competitors that don’t impose such restrictions.
Setting Up a Household Account
- Log in to the Flying Club account.
- Invite up to nine members who live with you through the online portal.
- Members accept and link their accounts.
The head of the account manages redemptions, while members continue earning points individually. Virgin Red points remain in individual accounts unless transferred manually.
