Prince and the Revolution were at the top of the U.S. album chart with “Around the World in a Day,” the album with the singles “Raspberry Beret” and “Pop Life,” on this day in 1985.
The album stayed at the top of the charts for three weeks, despite little publicity, on the heels of Prince’s smash album “Purple Rain.”
But “Raspberry Beret” was a hit, and the lush sounds of “Around the World” stayed with people, and the album went double platinum, selling 7 million copies around the world.
