John Lee Clark, DeafBlind poet, essayist and independent scholar who lives in Hopkins, is among 20 Disability Future Fellows from around the country who will each receive a $50,000 grant to advance their practice. This initiative of Ford Foundation and Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the only national award of its kind, is designed to increase visibility of disabled creative practitioners.

Clark is the author of a poetry chapbook, “Suddenly Slow,” and an essay collection, “Where I Stand: On the Signing Community and My DeafBlind Experience.” He edited two anthologies and has received grants and fellowships form the Minnesota State Arts Board, Intermedia Arts, Loft Literary Center and VSA Minnesota.

Clark is employed by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development as Braille and Protactile instructor. He is married to ASL Deaf artist Adrean Clark, with whom he has three sons.
