Kaupapa Maori. Te Whare Oranga Wairua Māori Women's Refuge Taupō.

Kaupapa Māori

Led by Māori Wāhine supporting our community, our services are whānau-centred and sit within a kaupapa Māori framework. We are here to support:

Wahine - Women

Tamariki - Child

Tāne - Men

Rangatahi - Youth

Pakeke - Adult

Kaumātua - Elderly

LGBTQIA+ community.

We take a Kaupapa Māori approach with the key principles being:

  • Whānaungatanga - Building effective, meaningful relationships and protecting safe connections.

  • Mana - Acting with professionalism at all times and empowering whānau.

  • Tino Rangatiratanga - Honoring of diversity, autonomy, and freedom of all people's right to determine their own future.

  • Whakapapa - Honoring an individual’s whakapapa in all aspects.

  • Manaakitanga - By sharing, hosting and being generous.

  • Aroha - By showing love and respect with all that we do.

  • Mahaki - By showing humility when sharing knowledge.

Te Whare Oranga Wairua is affiliated to the National Collective of Independent Women's Refuges (NCIWR).
