Former Indian Wells champion Paula Badosa beats two-time Grand Slam finalist Ons Jabeur 6-1 6-4 after 70 minutes to advance to the third round at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome.
Badosa has extended her head-to-head lead against Jabeur to 4-1.
Badosa aced out to a 5-0 lead with two breaks of serve. The Polish player saved a break point before serving out the first set at deuce in the seventb game.
Jabeur broke serve in the fourth game of the second set to open up a 3-1 lead. Badosa came back by winning five of the next six games to clinch the second set 6-4.
Badosa earned her second top 10 win in as many events following her victory over Coco Gauff in Madrid.
Jabeur was playing her first match since 22 April, when she retired from her semifinal match against Iga Swiatek in Stuttgart.
Karolina Muchova came back from one set down to beat Martina Trevisan 3-6 6-3 7-5 after 2 hours and 53 minutes.
Trevisan was not able to convert 15 break points. Trevisan fought back from 0-4 down by pulling back on serve both times to draw level to 4-4. Trevisan earned a match point at 5-4 30-40 on Muchova’s serve, but she did not convert it, as she hit her forehand into the net. Muchova earned the decisive break in the 11th game. The Czech player missed a match point at 40-15, but she converted it on the second chance the seal the second set 7-5, as Trevisan sent a forehand slice long.
