Tools and materials:
- Hair elastic
- Bobby pins or small clips
- U-shaped hairpin
- Mirror
- Brush or comb
1. Prepare your hair
Start with your hair down and tangle-free. Brush or comb your hair to remove any knots or tangles.
This will make the styling process much smoother.
2. Create a high bun
Gather your hair on top of your head as if you're going to create a high ponytail.
Secure it with a hair tie or elastic. This forms the base of your messy bun.
3. Divide the bun
Using your fingers, gently split the bun into two sections.
There's no need to be too precise – the aim is to create a slightly messy and voluminous look.
4. Twist and wrap
Take one of the divided sections and pull it over and around the other section.
You're essentially creating a twisted effect with the bun. This adds texture and depth to the bun.
5. Hair strand wraps
Now, take a small strand of hair from the bottom section that you left out initially.
Wrap this strand around the bun, concealing the hair tie and securing the twisted sections in place.
Use a bobby pin or a small clip to hold the wrapped strand in place.
Repeat this step with additional strands until you've wrapped all the loose ends around the bun.
6. Tame stray strands with a U-shaped hairpin
To control any extra unruly strands or to enhance the messy look, use a U-shaped hairpin.
Gently insert the hairpin into the bun, weaving it through the strands.
This will keep the strand in place while maintaining the desired relaxed look.
7. Final touches
If you want to loosen or adjust some strands for a more carefree appearance, now's the time to do so.
