That official Elder Scrolls Oblivion remake could reportedly release very soon, we assume via a massive fiery gate and accompanied by pesky scamps

Someone go and warn the people of Kvatch, they've probably just finished un-scorching all of their houses.

That long-rumoured The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remake could reportedly release as soon as next month, or if it doesn't make that, prior to June this year.

This as of yet still unannanounced remake - that's supposedly being developed in Unreal Engine 5 - has been the subject of alleged leaks and online chatter for a couple of years now. We first heard about it in 2023, when someone claiming to be an ex-Virtuos Games employee popped up on Reddit, and it was subsequently mentioned in some Microsoft documents which leaked during the company's ActiBlizz deal court proceedings against the FTC.

Now, the latest update comes via VGC and leaker NatetheHate. The latter has claimed that they've heard the remake could be in line for release prior to June, revealing in a tweet that they're expecting news on it "either this month or next month". Assuming their release window assertion's accurate, that news being a proper reveal would seem to make sense timeline-wise.

Meanwhile, VGC claims that sources have told it that the game "could arrive as soon as next month", so that'd be April in this case. There's no reason to think it'll happen, but I'd personally love to see a reveal and shadow-drop on the morning of April 1. Actually, on second thought, please don't do that Bethesda/Virtuos, writing news on April Fools' Day is going to take enough of a toll on my sanity as is.

As for what this Unreal Engine 5 remake will play like, it was reported back in January that an ex-Virtuos employee had leaked some details about how it'll be switching up some gameplay systems and elements including stamina, the HUD, and blocking, in an apparent effort to modernise things a bit.

This official Oblivion remake isn't the only Oblivion remaster-ish thing that looks set to release this year. There's also massive Skyrim modding project Skyblivion, the project lead of which we asked about the Oblivion remake rumours and what impact such a thing could have for the mod during an interview last month.

"I think whether the rumours are true or not doesn't affect us much," Kyle 'Rebelzize' Rebel told us, "If they are true I hope it will give people even more of a reason to try out our iteration of it. If it's not true then this will be the best way to re-experience the game [with] a new coat of paint."
