New Royal Enfield Classic 650, Scram 650 on the Way

Two new motorcycles from Royal Enfield have been spotted during pre-production testing in India, both using the brand’s 650 platform

Royal Enfield’s 650 platform looks set for another expansion in the near future, after two bikes built on it were spotted during pre-production testing in India.

The 650 platform from Royal Enfield currently consists of the Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650, Royal Enfield Shotgun 650, Royal Enfield Continental GT 650, and Royal Enfield Interceptor 650. Further additions look set to be arriving soon, as shown in spy shots published by the Indian website Rushlane.

The images show a scrambler-looking bike, and another retro-styled cruiser - a Scram 650, and a Classic 650 are likely.

While the Classic 650 appears to be based on the Super Meteor 650, therefore following the line set out by the Classic 350 which is based on the Meteor 350, the Scram 650 diverges from the standard set for the Royal Enfield Scram name.

Back in 2022, the Scram 411 was released, and was based on the previous-generation Himalayan. With a new Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 recently being released, it could be expected that a new Scram would take the technical base of the Indian brand’s newest adventurer. Instead, it seems to be based on the Interceptor.

The bikes from which the Classic 650 and Scram 650 are derived indicate their specification, with the Classic at the lower end of the 650 platform, the Scram further up the technical hierarchy. It means that the Classic 650 will make do with a conventional front fork and a simple, analogue instrument cluster, for example, while the Scram will get an upside down fork and the tripper instrumentation in addition to its semi-off-road setup, including knobby tyres and a taller ground clearance.

Both feature Royal Enfield’s 648cc parallel twin-cylinder engine, meaning we can expect 46bhp and 39lb ft.

Royal Enfield hasn’t made any official announcements regarding either bike, so we don’t yet know exact dates for a launch, or availability and pricing information, although, for reference, the Super Meteor 650 clocks in at £6,799 and the Interceptor 650 at £6,399.
