Last night at Coachella, Billie Eilish made history by becoming the festival’s youngest ever headliner—and she did so in the utmost style. Emerging onto the darkened stage in an enormous deconstructed B James puffer jacket, the 20-year-old pop star dropped the coat to the floor to perform her opening number, “Bury a Friend,” revealing a classic Eilish look underneath: a baggy tee with a graffiti print and matching cycling shorts by the independent designer Conrad, along with wrist warmers and stacks of chunky silver necklaces. The final, perfectly sporty, touch? A pair of white sneakers and knee pads, of course. (Eilish recently announced that she was also working with Nike on her own style of Air Force 1s, but the sneakers she wore yesterday actually came from the PSNY x Nike Air Force 1 collection, created in collaboration with Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne of the cult New York brand Public School.)

Eilish’s performance didn’t just make Coachella history, but it was also one of the most acclaimed of the weekend thus far. Including a cross-section of her hits from barnstorming pop bangers to heartfelt ballads, it served as one of the crowning achievements of her career. (The assembled crowd featured its fair share of fellow Gen Z idols, too, with Justin Bieber, Timothée Chalamet, and Jennie from Blackpink all reportedly bopping along.) Towards the end of her set, Eilish even took a moment to acknowledge the fact her meteoric ascent from bedroom pop musician to headlining one of the world’s biggest music events felt just a little surreal. “This is so weird,” she said to the crowd. “I should not be headlining this! It’s been three years, man.” With her breathtaking, brilliantly confident performance last night, however—and her killer look—she proved any remaining doubters firmly wrong.
