There’s something about vintage-inspired styles that feels decidedly stately for wedding celebrations. And if you’re a bride-to-be who has a soft spot for old-world aesthetics, you’re going to love Kareena Kapoor Khan’s gharara set, worn at her Delhi reception back in 2012. For the occasion, Kapoor Khan looked to a pink gharara set by one of her favourite designers, Manish Malhotra. Interestingly, this was the second gharara set that the bride chose for the celebrations. The first one was a burnt orange piece originally worn by her mother-in-law Sharmila Tagore for her big day. The pink one, however, was starkly different from Kapoor Khan’s heirloom nikaah attire. Take a closer look at her post-nuptials ensemble and jewellery below.

Kareena Kapoor Khan’s gharara married conventional and contemporary sensibilities

Kareena Kapoor Khan’s two-piece set comprised of a light pink kurta and flared rani pink bottoms, which she teamed with a matching dupatta. According to Malhotra, the gharara was generously accented with intricate zardozi and tilla work, leaning towards floral and geometric motifs. The ornate embellishment further contributed to the outfit’s vintage charm. While Manish Malhotra created period detailings in the gharara, he reinvented the look with modern tailoring.
