DeLand Airport, 910 Biscayne Ave., DeLand (386) 738-4149 – Memorabilia commemorating the 1942-1946 DeLand Naval Air Station are featured, including uniforms, aircraft models, guns and photos. The museum is open from Monday through Saturday.

 

Gamble House
Located within the Spruce Creek Preserve, owned by the Nature Conservancy and managed by the Museum of Arts and Sciences, it includes the hunting and fishing cottage built by James N. Gamble in 1907, his citrus-packing plant, gardens, gazebo and dock. After his grandchildren fell in love with the Disney movie “Snow White,” his son-in-law added the Snow White Cottage and Witch’s Hut in 1938. Off Taylor Road, 2 miles west of I-95. Halifax Historical Society
252 South Beach St., Daytona Beach (386) 255-6976 – Artifacts tracing the history of life in Volusia County. A research library is available. The Society’s walls are hand-painted murals of Florida history. Hours are from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.

New Smyrna Sugar Mill Ruins County Historic Site

  • The Museum of Arts and Sciences and Planetarium 1040 Museum Blvd. Daytona Beach (386) 255-0285 – A State of Florida Major Cultural Institution, the museum features changing exhibitions and permanent collections of paintings from the 18th-20th centuries; American fine and decorative arts from 1640-1920; European paintings, Oriental art, African art, Cuban fine art; Pre-Columbian art and Florida Native American material. Film, video, concert and lecture programs are offered. The Museum also includes the Windows in the Forest Environmental Center and Planetarium.   • Ponce De Leon Inlet Lighthouse Stop by and visit the second tallest lighthouse in the US. and see the maritime museums. The museum complex features an 1887 l ighthouse – a National Historic Landmark – and a collection of lighthouse service artifacts, a mariner’s museum, a restored lighthouse keeper’s house, lighthouse lens and a tugboat. Exhibits: “Filibusters and Pirates,” centennial commemoration of the Florida expeditions to aid the Cuban revolutionaries, “Stephen Crane and the Commodore: A Prelude to the Spanish-American War, A documentary of adventures in waters off Daytona Beach , and “The United States Navy in the Spanish-American War.” Hours: 10 am to 5 pm, last admission 4 pm.   • The Veteran’s Mobile Museum The Museum contains an extensive collection of uniforms, artifacts, photos, and documents from both World Wars through Desert Storm. The Museum is used at Veteran’s ceremonies, schools, parades, and other events.
