Montgomery man arrested following Millbrook pursuit
A Montgomery man is in custody following a pursuit in Millbrook.
Millbrook Police Chief P.K. Johnson said around 11:50 a.m. Friday, one of his officers attempted to make a traffic stop at Alabama Highway 143, just south of Alabama River Parkway.
The driver of the vehicle, a 2019 Dodge Charger, continued southbound refusing to stop.
The driver, now identified as 23-year-old Nazheer Lewis, of Montgomery, continued southbound, finally pulling over just south of River Oaks Road.
Chief Johnson said as the officer got out of his vehicle, Lewis pulled off at a high rate of speed, continuing to I-65.
Police say Lewis continued onto I-65 into Montgomery, at times clocking speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour.
The vehicle continued southbound to the exit at Edgemont Avenue, where Lewis attempted to abruptly cross several traffic lanes to exit onto Edgemont Avenue, at which point he lost control of the vehicle striking the exit barrier.
Lewis immediately fled the wreckage, running into the wood line and adjacent neighborhood.
Millbrook officers pursued Lewis on foot and were able to take him into custody after a brief foot pursuit.
Lewis has been charged with Felony Attempting to Elude, Unlawful Marijuana 1st Degree, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, four counts of Reckless Endangerment and numerous traffic violations.
Lewis is currently in the Elmore County Jail.
