DAVID COLLINS WBAL TV 11 NEWS. KAI: STUDENTS AT GLEN BURNIE HIGH SCHOOL EVACUATED THIS MORNING. THEY FELT SICK AFTER REPORTING A GAS ODOR. THE BUILDING WAS EVACUATED AND THE SICK STUDENTS WERE TAKEN TO A HOSPITAL. STUDENTS RETURNED 15 MINUTES LATER, AS THE BUILDING WAS SAFE TO RE-ENTER. SCHOOL OFFICIALS BELIEVE THE ODOR CAME FROM CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT. NO STUDENTS WERE SERIOUSLY H

Principal: Odor believed to be residual from construction equipment on campus

Glen Burnie High School briefly evacuated Tuesday morning after some students became ill. The school's principal, Kevin Carr, sent a letter to parents and guardians saying several students went to the health office feeling ill around 11:30 a.m., possibly due to a gas odor."In accordance with safety procedures, Building F (the old main building) was evacuated as emergency response was dispatched," Carr said in his letter.Carr said the ill students were taken to hospitals as a precaution.After about 15 minutes, officials deemed the building safe for re-entry, Carr said. The odor is believed to be residual from equipment related to ongoing construction on campus.
