Elderly driver dies after crashing into dump truck in Iredell County, police say
Crash happened on Oct. 15
TROUTMAN, N.C. (WBTV) - An elderly driver died after crashing into a dump truck in Iredell County on Tuesday, Oct. 15, according to the police department.
Mildred Jones, 85, was identified as the driver killed as a result of the wreck. The collision happened around 1 p.m. along Autumn Leaf Road and South Main Street’s intersection.
Police said Jones made a left turn from Autumn Leaf Road into the path of a dump truck traveling on South Main Street, causing a collision. Following the initial crash, the dump truck rolled onto its passenger side and struck another vehicle.
Authorities said the dump truck driver and passenger in Jones’s car were rushed to the hospital for treatment. Jones was also rushed to the hospital, where she died from the injuries she sustained in the crash.
No other injuries were reported.
According to officers, the wreck closed South Main Street for about three hours. No criminal charges have been filed at this time.
