CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - A fourth person was charged this week after a Charlotte school bus was caught in the crossfire of a shooting.

Jaheim Boone, 23, was charged on Thursday, Dec. 19 in connection with a shooting that involved a Charlotte school bus earlier this week. Boone was the third person taken into custody after the school bus was unintentionally hit by gunfire during a dispute, police reported.

On Monday, Dec. 16, an alleged drug dispute led to a shooting on East W.T. Harris Boulevard near Albemarle Road. A school bus carrying students with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools was caught in the crossfire of that shooting, officials said.

Of the 30 or so students on the bus at the time of the shooting, two were treated for cuts caused by shattered glass, police reported Tuesday. It did not appear that any students were hit by actual gunfire.

Authorities reported Tuesday that the school bus was not the intended target of the shooting. Rather, the bus got caught in the fire, police said.

Three people -- Joshua Woods, Jaheim Boone and 20-year-old Paris Lewis-Bynum -- have so far been charged with assault in connection with the shooting. Another man, 21-year-old Lamarius Anthony, was also taken into custody after the shooting. Woods is due in court at 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 23.

It was not clear whether Anthony was actually involved in the shooting. He was not charged with assault, but rather with possessing dugs and concealing a weapon.

Boone was charged with the most crimes of the three men, including the following:

  • Three counts of assault with a dangerous weapon with intent to kill.
  • Seven counts of discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling or moving vehicle.

Police said Boone “unlawfully, willfully, and feloniously” assaulted Lewis-Bynum with a 9 mm handgun “with the intent to kill him.” Boone also allegedly fired the gun into the school bus in addition to an occupied Infinity sedan, and an occupied Chevrolet Express Van.

Lewis-Bynum was denied bail during a court appearance on Thursday, Dec. 19. He was brought in for questioning on Wednesday, and later charged with the following crimes:

  • Assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.
  • Possession of a stolen firearm.
  • Possession of a firearm by a felon.
  • Possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

Lewis-Bynum was transferred into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, officials said. He appeared in court Thursday, and was scheduled to appear in court next on Jan. 9, 2025.

Anthony, the first person to be charged, was brought in for questioning on Monday after police saw him leaving the area of the shooting, officials said. He was later arrested and charged with felony possession of cocaine and carrying a concealed weapon.

Anthony was not charged with assault, and it was not immediately clear whether he was directly involved in Monday’s shooting. The man was out on bond as of Tuesday afternoon.

It was not immediately clear how many people were believed to be involved in the alleged drug dispute.
