16-year-old killed in shooting at Sanford apartment
A teenager died Sunday in a shooting at a Sanford apartment complex.
Sanford police say it happened just before 6 p.m. in the parking lot of the Stratford Pointe Apartments.
Officers arrived at the scene and found 16-year-old Jamarcus Parker suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
He later died at the hospital.
Police believe Parker was hanging out with friends when a vehicle approached. Two people exited the vehicle, began shooting, then got back inside and drove away.
Investigators have identified a vehicle of interest, a burgundy KIA, and the registered owner.
"It does appear that the victim and the suspects on some level are known to each other, that the victim was targeted and it is an isolated incident," spokesperson for Sanford police Bianca Gillett said. "Regardless of what the problem was, this was not how it should have been handled, because he's gone. We can't get him back. His family can't get him back."
Detectives found a car and a pickup truck with bullet holes at the crime scene.
Police are asking people who live in the area to share any videos they may have related to the shooting to help them solve the case.
"It was a very active parking lot around that apartment complex. People coming and going on their Sunday afternoons. So the fact that only two vehicles were hit is a little bit surprising as close quarters as that parking lot was," Gillett said. "That's why we're asking for any of that surveillance footage. All those angles, all those vantage points help us really piece together what exactly occurred."
Parker was a student at Journeys Academy.
In a statement sent to WESH 2 a spokesperson for Seminole County Public School said, "We are deeply saddened by this tragic loss. Our hearts are with his family, friends, and faculty members. We will have grief counselors available for students and staff as they work through processing their loss."
