Bridging Open Work Permit For Permanent Residents
A bridging open work permit (BOWP) allows you to continue working while you await the outcome of your permanent residency application.

If you apply to one of the permanent resident programmes listed below, you may be qualified.

  • Permanent residence using Express Entry
  • Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)
  • Quebec skilled workers
  • Home Child-Care Provider Pilot or Home Support Worker Pilot
  • Caring for children class or caring for people with high medical needs class
  • Agri-Food Pilot
Post Graduation Work Permit (PGWP)
The Post-Graduation Work Visa Program (PGWPP) enables graduates of eligible Canadian designated learning institutions (DLIs) to get an open job permit and gain significant Canadian work experience. Skilled Canadian work experience earned through the PGWPP in National Occupational Classification (NOC) skill type 0 or skill level A or B helps graduates qualify for permanent residence in Canada through the Canadian experience class within Express Entry.

Students who have completed their academic programme Students who have finished their programme of study are permitted to work (under paragraph 186(w) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations [IRPR]) while awaiting a decision on their post-graduation work permit application if they meet all of the following criteria:

They have or had a valid study permit at the time of the post-graduation work permit application; they were a full-time student enrolled at a DLI in a post-secondary academic, vocational, or professional training programme; they were authorized to work off-campus without a work permit; and they did not work more than the allowable hours.
LMIA based Work Permit
A Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) is a document that a Canadian employer may require before recruiting a foreign worker.

A positive LMIA will demonstrate the requirement for a foreign worker to fill the position. It will also demonstrate that there are no Canadian workers or permanent residents available to complete the task. A positive LMIA is also known as a confirmation letter.

If the employer requires an LMIA, he or she must apply for one.

Once the LMIA has been obtained by the company, the worker can apply for a work permit.

A worker must meet certain requirements in order to apply for a work visa.

  • A letter of employment
  • A contract
  • A copy of the LMIA
  • And the LMIA number
