A class in Wikidata, e.g., human (Q5), watercraft (Q1229765), watercraft type (Q16335899), or class (Q16889133) itself, is an entity that can have other entities that are an instance of (P31) of it. A class thus can have other classes that are a subclass of (P279) of it. All classes are implicitly an instance of (P31) class (Q16889133). These implicit instance of (P31) statements are not all observable in Wikidata. Only a very few classes should be be explicitly an instance of (P31) or a subclass of (P279) class (Q16889133). For any regular class, including metaclasses, the implicit relationship suffices even if there is no other class that can be found for the class to be an instance of (P31) or subclass of (P279). Most classes are fixed-order classes, e.g., human (Q5) whose instances are all individuals or ship type (Q2235308) whose instances are all classes of individuals, and can be explicitly stated to be an instance of (P31) the fixed-order class, here first-order class (Q104086571) and second-order class (Q24017414), respectively.
