Wikidata:Be bold

The following is a working draft of a proposed Wikidata policy, guideline, or process. The proposal is definitely still in development and under discussion, and has not yet reached the process of gathering consensus for adoption. Thus references or links to this page should not describe it as "policy", nor even as a proposal. |
Across Wikimedia projects, contributors are encouraged to "be bold", i.e. to give things a try if they think it makes sense and creates a net benefit for the project. If they are not sure, discussion is encouraged.
On Wikidata, no clear policy of this kind exists, and the following is thus just an emerging guideline:
- Be bold if you can commit to fixing problems that might arise in the process.
- Be cautious when you change something that is used a lot.
- Be bold in improving what is already here.
- Be selective in starting new entries.
- Be bold in signalling problems you may have found.
- Be careful with applying potential solutions
- Be sure before merging items. The process is easy, the important part is making sure it's really the same thing. Sitelinks to redirects might do what you need.
