Instance of position
[edit]Hi Lieutcoluseng, please avoid removing instance of position from specific offices.
--- Jura 14:32, 24 June 2018 (UTC)
Another thing: The officeholders are already listed on the states and the position statements of the individuals. No need to repeat them on the items for the offices.

- I see that you have been warned about this before: you are using instance of (P31) and subclass of (P279) wrong. Please stop. Andreasm háblame / just talk to me 05:53, 8 January 2021 (UTC)
- Sorry, considering you don't have many edits, I thought it was obvious I was referring to all your edits in which you included or deleted instance of (P31) and subclass of (P279), such as Colonel (Q5148082), Kentucky Colonel (Q632482) and honorary title (Q28457366). If you are interested in learning how positions are modelled in Wikidata, you could check President of the United States (Q11696). You could also read Help:Basic membership properties to understand the difference among those properties. Andreasm háblame / just talk to me 16:27, 8 January 2021 (UTC)

Duplicate or conflated Confederate Battle Flag (Q63973147) and Confederate Battle Flag (Q55874812)
[edit]Confederate Battle Flag (Q63973147) looks to have started from the commons category about all battle flags including Confederate Battle Flag (Q55874812), but seems to conflate a group of flags with a specific flag with the current statements. Did you intend to fill out Confederate Battle Flag (Q55874812) instead with these statements? Wolfgang8741 (talk) 16:48, 1 March 2022 (UTC)
- Hi, Wolfgang8741. I am a bit uncertain as to your inquiry exactly, but will try to answer the best that I can. The "Confederate Battle Flag" was a specific flag adopted by the Army of Northern Virginia and later emulated by the other two Confederate field armies (i.e. Army of Tennessee and the Trans-Mississippi Department) in one form or another. That said... during the American Civil War, Confederate units often used the term "battle flag" for their own regimental color. I hope that helps answer the question. But again... I did not perfectly understand it. Lieutcoluseng (talk) 23:12, 2 March 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks, but what I was highlighting is it appears you were trying to model a specific battle flag in Confederate Battle Flag (Q63973147), but used the Commons category linked on the initial creation of the Q represents various battle flags of the Confederate state regiments. In this case instance of would be more a group of battle flags (which may need a new Q created as class/subclass of something else) Confederate Battle Flag (Q55874812) on the other hand represents a specific flag which in this case I believe Virginia's battle flag.
- The important question I'm trying to answer is what concept where you trying to model for Confederate Battle Flag (Q63973147) as it appears as it might be either a duplicate of Confederate Battle Flag (Q55874812) if your intention is to represent the types of battle flags of the confederates states in which case the commons category link wouldn't be a good match due to the broader scope or if you are trying to represent the various battle flags of the Confederate States then a different approach to instance of as well as statements such as colors probably wouldn't apply given they are applicable to the specific flags. Wolfgang8741 (talk) 13:41, 3 March 2022 (UTC)
- If I understood you correctly... the broader scope. Lieutcoluseng (talk) 21:57, 3 March 2022 (UTC)
Thomas W. Bankes
[edit]He is Q42313633, but I can't find him in the census, can you link him to the census at Familysearch for me? Ping me when you get the message. RAN (talk) 01:51, 12 January 2023 (UTC)
- I just found him in the 1870 census. We still need the others, the obit says he was in Chicago from about 1881 to just before his death in 1906. --RAN (talk) 01:59, 12 January 2023 (UTC)
