Prelude to Digimon Adventure
She witnessed the Greymon/Parrotmon fight, which resulted in her becoming one of the DigiDestined.

Digimon Adventure
Eleven years old, (the same age as Tai and Matt) Sora was in the fifth grade when the series starts and attended Odaiba Elementary. She holds the Crest of Love (愛情の紋章 Aijō no Monshō). Her role is often as a motherly figure for various characters, especially to T.K. and Kari. In one episode, T.K. asks her not to leave because she reminds him so much of his mother.

Sora has a very tomboyish character, and wears a hat, yellow shirt and jeans. She played on the soccer team with Taichi "Tai" Kamiya (Taichi Yagami). She has a few issues with her loving but strict mother, who wanted Sora to quit soccer and study the art of flower arranging (ikebana - 生花), and her father, who is often absent. It was thanks to Biyomon that Sora and her mother made peace. Sora can be seen as like her mother in many ways, such as a tendency to be almost overprotective of everyone else.

Sora tries to put everything on herself, even when she cannot handle it, which leads her to eventually trap herself in a dark cave like Yamato "Matt" Ishida (Yamato Ishida), who along with Joe Kido, eventually helps her to escape.

At the start of the Myotismon saga, Sora remains hidden, secretly helping out the DigiDestined, thwarting DemiDevimon's plans. When DemiDevimon tried to feed Tai and T.K. some mushrooms that would make them forget who they were, Sora whispered that they were bad mushrooms to Agumon, who warned T.K. and Tai. Later, DemiDevimon also removed a support brick from a table in an attempt to make a box of potatoes fall outside the diner where Matt and Joe were trapped, working off Joe's debts. Demidevimon's hope was the Digidestined would have to work even longer, and keep the team apart. However, Sora replaced the brick, preventing the table from falling over.

When Demidevimon plots to ensure Mimi will continue taking advantage of the Gekomon who need her to wake their master, Sora appears to Mimi after she has a nightmare and comforts her, though Mimi believes that Sora was possibly a figment of her dreams. Despite Biyomon's help, she becomes emotional when DemiDevimon tells her that her Crest of Love will never glow because she doesn't know a thing about love. However when Myotismon attacks the children in the digital world Biyomon digivolves into Birdramon and holds off Myotismon. Birdramon is no match for him, and just as he is about to deliver the final blow Sora, overcome with emotion, shouts "No!, Birdramon I love you!" activating her crest of Love and thus allowing Birdramon to digivolve into Garudamon.

In May 2000, Sora arrived in the Digital World and gave up her Crest power to free the Digimon Sovereigns. As a result, Biyomon lost the power to become Garudamon.

Our War Game!
Before the movie starts, but after the first season finished, Sora became angry at Tai after he gave her a hair-clip for her birthday, taking it as an inconsiderate remark about her hair. Izzy tried to call her to help, but she refused to answer the phone when she heard it was from the Kamiya residence. She checks to see if Tai has sent her an email, but due to Diaboromon's interference with the internet, she doesn't have any new mail, furthering her annoyance; once, during another attack, she even goes to the Kamiya residence, seemingly to apologize herself, though she stops herself before she rings the bell and returns home. After Diaboromon was destroyed, Sora finally got the e-mail apology that Tai had sent earlier (Kari hit the Send button) and forgave him. Left out of the dub, at the end of the movie, Sora replies to Tai's message, apologizing herself for starting the argument and attaching a picture of her wearing the hair-clip.

Digimon Adventure 02
The second season takes place two and a half to three years after the first series. During this time, Sora stopped being a tomboy and is now learning the art of flower arranging from her mother. She now wears a sailor fuku. Although she no longer plays soccer, she is in the tennis club and still joins the other Digidestined whenever she can. There are signs that show that Sora develops feelings for Matt, such as when Sora goes backstage to give Matt some homemade cookies during the Christmas Special.

Hurricane Touchdown/Supreme Evolution! The Golden Digimentals
Sora is practicing ikebana at home, but a reaction from her Digivice causes her to vanish.

Michi e no Armor Shinka
She was at a store with Mimi and Kari Kamiya (Hikari Yagami), intent on making home-made chocolate cookies for Yamato. But they were taken hostage by Boltmon.

Revenge of Diaboromon
Sora was mainly busy with her tennis group, as well as that she had little method of transport being as trains were cut off. However, she showed up at the end to where Tai and Matt were after Imperialdramon showed up.

Digimon Adventure 02 Series Finale Epilogue
<!-- Note, in the April 2002 issue of Shūeisha's V Jump magazine, Yūko Mizutani, Sora Takenōchi's seiyū, confirmed that Yamato/Matt and Sora got married to each other! -->
By the year 2027, Sora has become a fashion designer. She is married to Matt and has a daughter who has a Yokomon and a son who has a Tsunomon.
