For some reason, people keep changing the date format from its original MDY to DMY, and claiming it was there first (which is false, if you look at the edit history). :::*I don't see any use of DMY in the article itself, just the references (which again, clicking "insert current date" on the access date field automatically has it as 8 March 2016). I agree that articles should be consistent, but I think we should only go by first use in article prose, whatever format it is. Wikipedia itself needs more consistency, as they settle for DMY as the default date format, but use Sega Genesis (name used only in North America) as the name of that article. ~ [[User:Dissident93|< |

So, are posts by Barone from Reddit allowed? I ask because he says here that he will most likely port Stardew Valley to other systems in the future, such as OS X and Linux. I've seen AMA posts sourced on other articles, but was never sure if it was officially allowed or not. I personally don't see why not, since Twitter is sometimes. ~ [[User:Dissident93|< |

True they are well established game platforms, but why restrict the list to only what we would consider "well established." What is the criteria for well established? The game author felt the platform significant enough to give permission to release it on that platform. I would describe Tesla as an up and coming game platform, gaming will only become more important on it as the number of users expand and autonomy expands. :That's speculation, and another good reason to avoid inclusion. Should it be the case that Tesla becomes considered as a gaming platform, then we can retroactively add it, but right now, with only two games for it (this and Cuphead), its a curiosity, not a platform. --Masem (t) 17:39, 16 February 2020 (UTC) |

100s of thousands of people have access to the game via Tesla which is a considerable exposure opportunity and worth calling out availability for in this article (no public usage stats exist that I know of). Personally my own exposure to both Cuphead and Stardew Valley came via Tesla first. Eriksamuelson (talk) 17:57, 16 February 2020 (UTC) |
|||
Also it shows the significance of Stardew Valley, that it is one of only a handful of games to be in Tesla. Eriksamuelson (talk) 18:00, 16 February 2020 (UTC) |

I have to agree that I think Tesla should be included on the platform list. What is the point of being restrictive here? Tesla is a major car platform, and the fact that Stardew is available on it seems noteworthy. None of the arguments against it above seem to hold water — the iPhone isn’t strictly a game platform, but no one would that it isn’t an available platform for Stardew. Why doesn’t this logic apply to Tesla? Clemenjo (talk) 16:25, 17 March 2020 (UTC) |
|||
Agree with adding Tesla as a platform, the fact that I went to edit page and a comment has to be left to tell others like me that the Tesla platform should not be added. Sounds like there are many people that think adding Tesla is worthwhile if we are trying to capture all information on Wikipedia, versus leaving data out. :We aren't, though. Wikipedia has many guidelines that are explicitly about excluding information. Infobox video game itself has specific rules about the platform fields and what should be included. The article itself DOES cover the fact that it's available on Tesla, so the fact is not excluded. -- ferret (talk) 14:33, 30 August 2020 (UTC) |

Stardew Valley won the 2017 'The World Is Grim Enough Let's Just All Get Along' Award on Steam (and was also nominated in other categories 3 times). However, it is not listed among other awards. Was wondering, since I didn't notice a section for it, should there be a section on updates/patches/etc? Would this be something that might need a new section under Development? I added a quick change to the gameplay section discussing character relationships with npcs, i noted that only certain characters are able to be married (without mods of course) and that they'll move in after marrage. Cover art
[edit]For the game's "cover" art, would this logo from the game's wiki suffice? Or would the Steam banner image be better? And since I'm new to Wikipedia, I cannot upload images yet, so feel free to upload it yourself if you want. Sogivemeonegoodreason (talk) 03:09, 5 March 2016 (UTC)
- We normally try to go for a clean image of the game's logo, over promotional material (for digital only games). So in this case, the image from the Wiki is better.
EDIT: I've gone ahead and uploaded it myself. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 03:27, 5 March 2016 (UTC)
- Ah, okay, makes sense! Thanks! Sogivemeonegoodreason (talk) 03:51, 5 March 2016 (UTC)
Date format
[edit]For some reason, people keep changing the date format from its original MDY to DMY, and claiming it was there first (which is false, if you look at the edit history). Just putting this here because it's been changed by two separate users. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 21:30, 8 March 2016 (UTC)
- @Dissident93: The initial date format was DMY. Not MDY. — Strongjam (talk) 21:32, 8 March 2016 (UTC)
- It says February 2016. Are you referring to the references, which automatically populate the access date as DMY? That doesn't count, it's the first use of MDY or DMY in the article prose that does, which was my edit. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 21:35, 8 March 2016 (UTC)
- Those aren't automatically populated. Sandstein used DMY so I went with that. I don't really care what format we use, as long as we are consistent per MOS:DATEUNIFY. — Strongjam (talk) 21:39, 8 March 2016 (UTC)
- I don't see any use of DMY in the article itself, just the references (which again, clicking "insert current date" on the access date field automatically has it as 8 March 2016). I agree that articles should be consistent, but I think we should only go by first use in article prose, whatever format it is. Wikipedia itself needs more consistency, as they settle for DMY as the default date format, but use Sega Genesis (name used only in North America) as the name of that article. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 21:42, 8 March 2016 (UTC)
FWIW, as the first author, I did intend to use the international DMY format, but then noticed I didn't actually write a date. Sandstein 23:25, 8 March 2016 (UTC)
Reddit posts as a reliable source
[edit]So, are posts by Barone from Reddit allowed? I ask because he says here that he will most likely port Stardew Valley to other systems in the future, such as OS X and Linux. I've seen AMA posts sourced on other articles, but was never sure if it was officially allowed or not. I personally don't see why not, since Twitter is sometimes. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 07:51, 17 March 2016 (UTC)
- See WP:ABOUTSELF. Sandstein 09:29, 17 March 2016 (UTC)
- So I'm guessing that's a yes then? ~ Dissident93 (talk) 12:54, 17 March 2016 (UTC)
- Yes, there's no doubt that it is the dev, and he is a reliable source for claims about his own plans. But I'd avoid adding it unless a secondary sources pick it up, and even then I'm not sure. Seems a bit WP:CRYSTALBALL at the moment. — Strongjam (talk) 15:19, 20 March 2016 (UTC)
- Yeah, that's why I asked. I suppose it could be retroactively added once the ports are officially announced. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 00:20, 21 March 2016 (UTC)

Linux/OSX Release date
[edit]In the infobox we have the tentative release date for the Linux & OSX releases as 2016, but in the article body it just says "very soon". Do we have a source for 2016 or should it just be TBD in the infobox? — Strongjam (talk) 14:53, 15 July 2016 (UTC)
- As far as I know there hasn't been any official statement regarding a release date. Just vague tweets from the dev that it is coming soon. CurlyWi (talk) 15:58, 15 July 2016 (UTC)
- He said that the console versions will be released this winter, and that the OS X and Linux ports will be released before that, meaning they are still scheduled for 2016. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 06:33, 16 July 2016 (UTC)
- Looks like this is a settled matter. We have an official release date from Barone now. — Strongjam (talk) 16:40, 20 July 2016 (UTC)
Metacritic link
[edit]The Metacritic link is wrong and should be http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/stardew-valley . I don't know how to fix it, though. :-( 199.246.169.52 (talk) 02:24, 21 January 2017 (UTC)

Switch port: connectivity with other versions?
[edit]I seem to recall something about there being a multiplayer aspect to the game — particularly the PC version — and that they might've made the multiplayer multi-platform as well (id est: people on a PC can play with other people playing on a PS Vita or something).
Does anyone know yet if the Nintendo Switch version will be capable of that? Kizul Emeraldfire (talk) 01:15, 13 April 2017 (UTC)
MonoGame
[edit]If someone wants to work the use of MonoGame into the article, here are couple sources[1][2] to do that without doing any WP:OR. I'm not sure if it's important enough for the article to add it myself though, and we should make sure we separate it from the initial Windows development Barone did. The use of MonoGame was for porting to other platforms. — Strongjam (talk) 13:02, 25 April 2018 (UTC)

- I think part of the issue was replacing that it was written in XNA with Mono. It was written in XNA. It was later (at least partially) rewritten or ported to Mono. That should be included in addition to, not as replacement for, the older prose. -- ferret (talk) 13:07, 25 April 2018 (UTC)
- And for the infobox, we usually go with the original engine as the rest of the information usually applies to original game only. So in this case, we still wouldn't add MonoGame to it if it only applies to ports. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 20:04, 25 April 2018 (UTC)
Tesla
[edit]Tesla should not count as a platform for the game for a few reasons, with the main one being that the OS the cars use being based on Linux, which is already represented here. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 09:35, 11 January 2020 (UTC)
I don't agree with this logic. The same argument would apply to listing Nintendo Switch as a platform, since it also is based on Linux. (I think both should be listed). Besides there are often game differences in the Tesla arcade version, for example in Beach Buggy Eriksamuelson (talk) 16:57, 15 February 2020 (UTC)
- The key reason is that Tesla is not first and foremost a gaming platform. It's a car that happens to have an OS that can, among other things, play games. --Masem (t) 03:09, 16 February 2020 (UTC)
I don't think this argument works. Windows, IOS, Android, Linux, are all listed, but are also not "first and foremost a gaming platform." Eriksamuelson (talk) 16:59, 16 February 2020 (UTC)
- All those platforms are well-established as gaming platforms. Telsa's OS remains a system to support the car's functions, not gaming. --Masem (t) 17:01, 16 February 2020 (UTC)
Eriksamuelson (talk) 17:37, 16 February 2020 (UTC)
- That's speculation, and another good reason to avoid inclusion. Should it be the case that Tesla becomes considered as a gaming platform, then we can retroactively add it, but right now, with only two games for it (this and Cuphead), its a curiosity, not a platform. --Masem (t) 17:39, 16 February 2020 (UTC)
100s of thousands of people have access to the game via Tesla which is a considerable exposure opportunity and worth calling out availability for in this article (no public usage stats exist that I know of). Personally my own exposure to both Cuphead and Stardew Valley came via Tesla first. Eriksamuelson (talk) 17:57, 16 February 2020 (UTC)
Also it shows the significance of Stardew Valley, that it is one of only a handful of games to be in Tesla. Eriksamuelson (talk) 18:00, 16 February 2020 (UTC)
Clemenjo (talk) 16:25, 17 March 2020 (UTC)
ChrisANovak (talk) 04:26, 30 August 2020 (UTC)
- We aren't, though. Wikipedia has many guidelines that are explicitly about excluding information. Infobox video game itself has specific rules about the platform fields and what should be included. The article itself DOES cover the fact that it's available on Tesla, so the fact is not excluded. -- ferret (talk) 14:33, 30 August 2020 (UTC)
- Doesn't the Tesla OS use Linux as well? ~ Dissident93 (talk) 20:52, 30 August 2020 (UTC)
Steam Award is not listed within the awards section
[edit]Stardew Valley won the 2017 'The World Is Grim Enough Let's Just All Get Along' Award on Steam (and was also nominated in other categories 3 times). However, it is not listed among other awards. Looking at a few other games, Steam Awards aren't listed there either. Is there any reason why that is? --Ondar111 (talk) 10:07, 29 November 2020 (UTC)
- Non-notable award driven by fan/community voting. -- ferret (talk) 15:21, 29 November 2020 (UTC)
- Ferret, would you say it should be omitted entirely (despite having an article for the awards) or just the table? I ask because we have slightly different standards for both. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 19:43, 29 November 2020 (UTC)
- Personally I thought current project consensus was to omit fan voted awards. -- ferret (talk) 22:40, 29 November 2020 (UTC)

[edit]Stardew Valley got more Award nomination in 2016 and 2017, why we dont add them? here's for example [2] — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aliffa Rezha (talk • contribs) 03:11, 1 June 2022 (UTC)

Stardew Valley Wiki
[edit]There's a dedicated wiki for this game, does anybody else think it should be mentioned on the page? Orrinpants(talk|contributions|log) 13:10, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
- Eh. It's in external links already. If there's a source that's like "players often use SDV wiki while playing" (probably is, judging by the subreddit), then it could be added somewhere. Roundish ⋆tc) 19:33, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
- I removed the external link to the wiki as it easily accessible from the main website similar to the official forums. Pikachubob3 (talk) 02:41, 27 August 2024 (UTC)
Missing Plot Section
[edit]After reading the page, I can see that the plot of the game is not mentioned. While I have not played Stardew Valley very much, I know that there is a plot. Is there a reason there isn't a section for the game's story? Data Devourer (talk) 07:21, 12 April 2024 (UTC)
- Now that I think about it, I'm fairly certain this page did have a plot section, so why was it removed? Data Devourer (talk) 07:28, 12 April 2024 (UTC)
- Because its "plot" can be explained in a sentence or two. There is no real narrative besides the player character's grandfather dying and them inheriting his farm. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 22:24, 14 July 2024 (UTC)
Game Updates
[edit]Was wondering, since I didn't notice a section for it, should there be a section on updates/patches/etc? Would this be something that might need a new section under Development? Especially since 1.6 came out and included new additions to game mechanics, visuals, events, etc, wasn't sure if this was something that should be added in or if its okay to leave it out since I think at least one source mentions it. Thanks! IsaBellHi (talk) 02:00, 14 July 2024 (UTC)
- Unless an update fundamentally changed the game (like the post-release addition of multiplayer) then no. See WP:VGSCOPE #10. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 22:22, 14 July 2024 (UTC)
- Makes sense, thank you! IsaBellHi (talk) 23:17, 14 July 2024 (UTC)
- You could say something along the lines of: The game has seen continued updates throughout it's lifespan with the most notable being 1.4 which came with the edition of multiplayer Pikachubob3 (talk) 02:24, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
on the most serious plot element in the game
[edit]i swear to yoba this is actually sort of kind of a little somewhat serious-ish
opinions on cramming some info on the reception of grandpa's bed? i found some stuff regarding it, but... eh, might still be a little trivial
- https://www.siliconera.com/stardew-valley-grandpas-bed-immortalized-in-new-official-pin-merchandise/ shows eric's acknowledgement of the scene. jury's still out on whether or not it treats the scene like a meme though
- https://www.polygon.com/23048944/stardew-valley-grandpa-bed-meme-mods discusses mods related to the bed
- https://www.polygon.com/gaming/23872393/stardew-valley-haunted-chocolatier-concernedape-eric-barone-bed-meme discusses the meme, and the inordinately ordinate old man-laden bed in haunted chocolatier that seems to be the logical opposite of the joke
- https://www.vg247.com/haunted-chocolatier-grandpa-screenshot like #3, but more focused on the haunted chocolatier side of things
- https://www.gamesradar.com/stardew-valley-modders-are-going-to-war-over-grandpas-deathbed-in-the-opening-cutscene/ like #2, but it lists different bed mods (plus some of the same ones)
i kind of wish they discussed the nature of the meme beyond "it looks funny", but... i guess that's really all there is to it, so eh. they seem usable overall, but are they worth using? and if so, could #3 and #4 also be used in haunted chocolatier's article?
both of the polygon articles were written by ana diaz. this isn't important to the discussion, i just found that funny cogsan (nag me) (stalk me) 20:50, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
